Continuing forward • 25 of our inaugural class members graduated in June 2011 • The chapter inducted 5 OMS-III and 9 OMS-IV students by recommendation of the ATSU-SOMA Honor Committee
Honor Committee • Honor Committee consists of Dean, two faculty members, and four student government presidents • They make recommendations by looking at the following for each inductee: • Academic performance • Community service contributions • Commitment to peers via tutoring • Leadership and extracurricular involvement • Commendation from faculty
Continuing forward • The second induction and thereafter have been at the recommendation by the Honor Committee followed by approval by the SSP-Y membership • Voting process by membership is anonymous • A modification to previous induction process, students were informed about their consideration for induction and allowed to list a select number of activities or community service events they have been involved in
Service • In order to maintain membership in the SSP-Y members must commit to at least 80 hours of community service throughout their membership • This results in over 4,000 hours of community service performed NATIONWIDE! • They track their service via a webform on the SSP-Y intranet site • More than 1000 hours of community service have been logged nationwide so far!
Service • Members have logged community service in anything from coaching youth soccer and football teams, volunteering at health screenings, mentoring youth, fundraising • Our members have are involved in projects at each of their community sites that range from recruiting tomorrows physicians to syringe exchange programs • They are truly affecting their communities throughout the country
Looking Ahead • Sigma Sigma Phi Upsilon (SSP-Y) will be electing their new officers in November • The SSP-Y will also be inducting its fifth class in November, after the officer elections • The SSP-Y is also currently working on a formalized Upperclassmen-to-Underclassmen mentoring system as well as an SSP-Y tutoring system • SSP-Y will be working on requesting more funding to fund future projects
