Egypt We live in the country of Egypt. Egypt is apart of the continent of Africa.
Cairo Our school is in a city called Sheikh Zayed, but many of us live in different parts of Cairo. When there is no traffic it takes us 30 minutes to drive from school to our homes in Cairo. However, usually it takes us 1-2 hours to drive home after school because there are so many cars on the road. Cairo is where the Giza pyramids and the Spinx are located.
Seasons Egypt has 2 seasons (winter and summer). Winter is from November to April. The temperature is around 60 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and 40 degrees Fahrenheit at night. For the first time in over 100 years, we got snow this year. Summer is from May to October. It gets to be over 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer.
Questions For You • Do you like the snow in winter? • This year, it snowed in Egypt for the first time in over 100 years. A lot of us have never seen snow. • What do you wear in the summer and winter? • In the summer we wear shorts, t-shirts and sandals. • In the winter, policemen wear black uniforms to keep warm. In the summer they wear white uniforms to keep cool.
Everyday Food Kosheri: noodles, tomato sauce, chickpeas and fried onions. Vine Leaves: grape leaves, rice, spices, nuts and lemons.
Dips + Spreads Hummus: chickpeas, oil and different spices. Tabouleh: parsley, tomatoes, mint, onions, lemon juice and oil.
Favorites We have some different kinds of food, but don’t worry…we still love PIZZA!
School Activities We LOVE to play futbol (soccer) at recess! This year we got a new playground to play on at recess.
Desert Activities We like to go camping in the desertwith our friends. When we go camping we have fun playing in the sand.
Desert Activities We go sand boarding – it’s like snowboarding, but on sand. We even ride camels and horses into the desert sometimes.
Sightseeing There are a lot of pyramids in Egypt to go visit. There are many things to see, like the Sphinx and King Tut’s tomb.
Our School The American International School Egypt – West Campus
Facts About AISE-West Our school opened in 2009. It is only 5 years old. We have students from Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade on our campus. We have over 1000 students at our school. Our mascot is a Lynx.
Outside This is outside of the KG1 and KG2 classrooms. This is the front of our school. There are a lot of big windows.
Outside This is our new theatre where we have concerts and plays. This where we play, but now there is fake grass and a playground.
Our Classroom This is our classroom decorated for our Christmas party. We have a word wall, a library and a reading corner.
Our Teachers Our fantastic teacher is Ms. Heather. She is kind, cute and silly! She loves to draw, play soccer and have races with her students at recess. She is also from Belgium, Wisconsin and went to the same school as you! Reid’s dad used to be her basketball coach. She is married to Luke Meinen, the son of Mr. Meinen.
Our Teachers We also have an assistant teacher. Her name is Ms. Walaa. She wears a head scarf and is very, very nice. She likes to play with her daughter Farida. Farida is 2.5 years old.

Our favorite things about school are playing “7-Up,” playing “Around the World” in math class and going to recess. • Do you have writing and math classes? • Our classes are Arabic, Religion, Math, Writing, Reading, Social Studies and Science. We also have Computer, Music, P.E. and Art. • Do you like your teacher? What does she look like? • What days do you go to school? • We go to school on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Our weekends are on Friday and Saturday. • Do you speak another language? • We speak English and Arabic.

Maryam I like to play on the playground with my friends.
Bahaa I like to play soccer at recess.
Khadiga I love to play outside at recess.
Youssef S. I like to play soccer.
Aly I like running. I am super-duper fast!
Dana I like to hang out with my sister and brother.
Ghalia I love my friends and I like to play with them a lot.
Lily I like to dress up and play with my cooking toys.
Selim I like to play with my small, black and white puppy.
Yousef G. My nickname is Jojo. I like to play soccer!
Lina I like to play with my friends. I like Barbie’s and fairies. I’m in the school musical – Seussical, Jr.
Amina I am really fast! My favorite class is P.E.
Salma I love to eat margarita pizza.
Kenouz I like to eat cheese pizza.
Ibrahim My nickname is Bibo. I am famous because I play soccer and scored 7 goals.
Yassin I like to play soccer on the same team as Bahaa and Hamza.
Zeina I like to dress up and put on make-up. I like all colors except black.
Heddy I like field trips. We just went to Kidzania and the IMAX.
Hamza I like video games, soccer and pizza.
Al Hussien I like to play soccer and run.
