  3. Dew drops

  4. Lizard walking on water

  5. SURFACE TENSION

  6. What is Surface Tension? Surface Tension is the elastic tendency of a fluid surface which makes it acquire the least surface area possible. Surface tension allows insects, usually denser than water, to float and stride on a water surface. The instrument used to determine the surface tension of fluid is stalagmometer.

  7. Molecular arrangement

  8. Molecular arrangement

  9. Molecular arrangement

  10. This results into a streched surface The inward forces result into stretched elastic surface.

  11. Can we break thEsurface tension?

  12. Activity 1..... Requirements: #Plate # water # pepper # liquid soap

  13. Activity 2..... Requirements: # Tray # water # paper boat # liquid soap

  14. Why dew drops are spherical ?

  15. Activity 3..... Requirements: # coins # syringes

  20. Question: 1 Q: The apparatus used for determination of surface tension of liquid is : • Oedometer • Stalagmometer • Consolidometer Answer: B

  21. Question :2 Q: Rain drops are spherical in shape because of : • Surface tension • Capillary • Downward motion Answer: A

  22. Question: 3 Q: What is the effect of temperature on surface tension? • Surface tension increases with rise in temperature • Surface tension decreases with rise in temperature • None of the above • Answer: B

  23. HOME WORK.. Make a short video clip or collect photographs on the applications of surface tension
