GBV: Some experiences from LAC September 30, 2008
GBV • A woman’s (and man’s) issue, a public health issue, and a human rights issue BUT ALSO a DEVELOPMENT issue, affecting poverty, social development, and economic growth. • Not helpful to see GBV in isolation – rather see as part of a ‘continuum of violence’, with many shared risk factors for other types of violence. • Traditionally GBV has had a victim focus – newer approaches explore prevention of GBV involving families and – particularly – men.
