Improving statistics for sustainable development >> road map on statistics + tools to support countries in implementing it

Supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda Asia and the Pacific Data and multi-sectoral analysis on the SDGs >> Annual Asia and the Pacific SDG Progress Report >> Asia-Pacific SDG gateway Leaving no one behind >> Action Plan to Accelerate the Implementation of the Incheon Strategy Institutional strengthening for the integration of & stakeholder engagement on the 2030 Agenda >> e.g. assistance to VNR countries on stakeholders engagement

Supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda Arab States • Monitoring and supporting progress on the SDGs • Launched first regional data portal with 100 million data points • 2030 Agenda macroeconomic model for sustainable fiscal policies • Developed a macroeconomic SDG model • Creating a multidimensional poverty reduction measurement framework • Developed an Arab multidimensional poverty index • Leaving no one behind • Produced the first regional data set compliant with the Washington Group on Disability Statistics • Prevention of conflict relapse • Developed an institutional gaps assessment for • Arab countries in conflict or post-conflict settings

Regional Forums on Sustainable Development Aligning programmes and conference structures with the 2030 Agenda Peer learning through exchange of experiences among countries of the same region, notably those preparing for the high-level political forum voluntary national reviews Regional platforms for assessing progress & exchanging best practices on 2030 Agenda & SDGs Regional perspectives on the global theme of high-level political forum Addressing means of implementation from a cross-cutting regional perspective Partnerships with the United Nations system or with regional and sub regional organizations or other stakeholders

  9. Aligning programmes and conference structures with the 2030 Agenda Fully aligned all 8 subprogrammes with the SDGs. Created cross-divisional teams around 4 nexus areas: Sustainable use of natural resources Sustainable & smart cities for all ages Sustainable mobility & smart connectivity Measuring & monitoring the SDGs ECE region Aligned its structure with the transformative features of the 2030 Agenda, e.g. enhanced support for the principle of LNOB and for integrated policy approaches Mainstreamed 2030 Agenda into its intergovernmental machinery. Conference structure aligned with 2030 Agenda: Following 2014 independent evaluation: Establishment of FFD, STI & Energy committees Realignment of all other sectoral committees to focus on SDGs and through ECOSOC Res 2015/30 & Dec 2017/269 Arab States Asia & Pacific Revised its programme of work and structure to better adapt its activities to support member States in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda e.g. merged the two subprogrammes of Macroeconomic policies and Growth and financing for development Five new strategic directions Focused the five subregional ECA offices on selected thematic areas aligned with subregional priorities Africa LAC

The Regional Dimension in Support of the 2030 Agenda • ESCAP - Regional Space Applications Programme for Sustainable Development with research entities • ESCWA - 2019 Arab Region Parliamentary Forum on the 2030 Agenda • ECLAC - Joint publications with other UN agencies such as UNICEF, ILO, UNDP, FAO • ECE - Multi-stakeholder partnership on Sustainable Mobility for All >> to achieve the SDGs & transform the transport sector • ECA - The Africa Business: Health Forum & Agreement to leverage PPPs for sustainable development and for infrastructure networks in Africa Leveraging partnerships for sustainable development

Promoting coherence at the regional level & enhanced policy-operational nexus • Regional coordination mechanisms • Established following ECOSOC resolution 1998/46 Annex III • SG proposed creation of UN regional collaborative platform • In 2018-19, RegComs and regional offices of AFPs continued to pursue greater coordination • & to promote coherence in policy and in regional and subregional programming through: • Regional Coordination Mechanism (RCM) discussions • - Africa discussed UN system support to AU in addressing issues related to refugees and IDPs • - Asia-Pacific discussed progress in monitoring SDGs and priorities for regional action • - Europe and Central Asia joint identification & addressing transboundary and subregional issues • Regional issue-based coalitions and working groups • - In Latin America, ECLAC, UNDP & IOM collaboration on migration / development plan for El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico • - In the Arab region, UNDS joint operational framework for collaboration to deliver integrated policy advice • Moving forward: ECOSOC resolution E/2019/L.21on QCPR progress

Promoting coherence at the regional level & enhanced policy-operational nexus • Strengthened country-regional nexus • Closer engagement among RegComs, RCs and UNCTs • RegComs increasingly active in the formulation of cooperation frameworks, common country assessments and peer support group mechanisms • Strengthened regional-global nexus • High-level reporting of the outcomes of the Regional Forums on Sustainable Development to the HLPF • RegComs serving as platforms for follow-up & review of globally agreed frameworks & contribute the regional voice for the formulation of global frameworks
