This workshop aims to raise awareness about the importance of preventing and controlling the spread of plant pests through international trade. Participants will learn about reporting obligations, transparency, and the benefits of information exchange. The workshop also includes practical exercises to develop national action plans for improved information exchange. Expected outcomes include increased awareness, better access to information, and reduced spread of plant pests.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES & EXPECTED OUTPUTS IPPC Secretariat 03 - 07 July 2011 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Objectives • Knowledge: • The need for information exchange • National reporting obligations • Benefits of reporting • Recognize importance of transparency
Development • Following the completion of the workshop, participants should be capable of doing the following using the IPP: • find information • meet reporting requirements as identified by the Convention • And/or know how different individuals in their NPPO and in partner organizations contribute to the NPPO’s information exchange activities
Implementation • Upon return to their places of work, participants and the NPPOs for which they work should: • Establish a national information exchange action plan • Submit an action plan to the Secretariat • Identify barriers and facilitators • Carry out the activities identified in their action plans • Deadlines / milestones • Make improvements with respect to information exchange (e.g. increase the number of reports that have been submitted for three reporting categories)
Impacts • Workshop should result in the following impacts: • Increased awareness of IPPC and obligations • Increased access to the information necessary for safe trade • Increased access to pest information • Spread of plant pests reduced
