2011 Horizon Report Important tool to demonstrate how important technology is becoming. People are spoiled, they want everything Fast and Now! • BUT Tablets, kindles and ipads make information much quicker but take away the simple joys of life such as relaxing while truly appreciating a book.
Pros and Cons • Both Pros and Cons are important factors to consider. • Pro = ability and desire for improvement = enthusiasm towards technology • Cons = inability to deal with wrong predictions = inability to adjust to changes
2060 Salman Kahn’s prediction of education • NOW - The teacher lectures students who take notes and will have to pass a test at the end of the course. • IN 2060 - Education will be more active for the student. In 50 years it will change into a completely 'active, discovery and creative model'. Education will be characterized by less mental labor, but more creativity and innovation using technology and projects.
Some problems may arise in the prediction: • Population is aging • Technology will sharpen the gap poor-rich • Decrease of funds due to decrease of # of students
Importance of Creativity • Creativity can be taught, guided and encouraged. • Our parents and ourselves, have always done the mistake to want our children grown fast, mature and following rules. • The biggest mistake a parent does that limits creativity is to encourage them to color inside the lines, instead of letting their imagination freely express.
2017 Scenario • Instruction becomes more individualized • Students become more independent • Less teachers needed and more counselors • More projects versus tests • Each student will have a computer assigned
