We have discovered heaven is bigger than our whole universe! • And there are most likely billions of angels with jobs, positions, authority, etc. • And more than that – they have free will! • In fact, when Lucifer rebelled against God, he had an army consisting of 1/3 of all the angels with him!
The Journey before us • This week – Satan’s fall • Next week – Mother’s day • The following week – creation vs. evolution • The week after that – Genesis 1-2 • And then, Genesis 3-4 the fall of man
Before creationeternity past • Timeline of creation Trinity & Angels World Satan’s Man Heaven Eden Fall
Genesis 1:1 • We will do an introduction to the book later – today we need to finish our study of angels, so we will peer into the fall of Lucifer.
First, why is the important to study? • All evil, bad, sickness, and death come from Satan. • It is important to know that God did not create evil, but in giving angels free will, He allowed it to enter in so that mankind would have free will. There had to be evil in order for us to choose good. • Without a choice, there is no true love!
Some main points • Lucifer was created good • He was created before this universe, so in the creation of this universe God could call everything ‘good’. • He chose bad and became evil • He was cast down from heaven, but still has access to heaven • At the breaking of the sixth seal, he will be cast out of heaven for ever.
Theories • Some say Satan sinned between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2 – the gap theory • It could be he sinned after the creation of the world, before the creation of man. • Either way, his pride was his sin, and caused all evil in the universe! • And Satan was cast down to earth • So, when did Satan fall? • First we need a little reminder…
Flash forward…we now have authority over Satan & his demons! Luke 10:18 18 And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” How do we have authority over the enemy?
Jas 4:6 But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, "GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE." • Jas 4:7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. • Jas 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Gap Theory • Gen 1:1 In the beginningH7225 GodH430 createdH1254 (H853) the heavenH8064 and the earth.H776 • Gen 1:2 And the earthH776wasH1961 without form,H8414 and void;H922

Satan being cast out of heaven is in two phases, just like the coming of our Lord • Jesus had a first coming and there will be a second coming. • Satan was cast out of heaven, but still has access to the throne of God. • The second time Satan will be cast out of heaven will be permanent.
Jesus witnessed the first time Satan was cast from heaven… • Luk 10:17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name." • Luk 10:18 And He said to them, "I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning.
When good angels choose to do bad… • Angels were given free will – example: • Dan 10:13 "But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was withstanding me for twenty-one days; then behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia.
Dan 10:21 "However, I will tell you what is inscribed in the writing of truth. Yet there is no one who stands firmly with me against these forces except Michael your prince.
The fall of Lucifer • Most likely happened after the creation of the garden, before the creation of man. • Before we explore this, a quick question: What kind of angel is Satan?
Eze 28:13 "You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The ruby, the topaz and the diamond; The beryl, the onyx and the jasper; The lapis lazuli, the turquoise and the emerald; And the gold, the workmanship of your settings and sockets, Was in you. On the day that you were created They were prepared. • Eze 28:14 "You were the anointed cherub who covers, And I placed you there. You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked in the midst of the stones of fire. • Eze 28:15 "You were blameless in your ways From the day you were created Until unrighteousness was found in you.
Gleanings from the text… • This is a word about Satan, not the King of Tyre – how do we know? Because he was created, not born. Also, he walked in the Garden of Eden! • He was created good, and chose evil… • Most people say Satan was an archangel like Michael, but here he is called a ‘cherub’.
We already discussed Cherubim – review… • The Bible portrays cherubim as the guardians of the Garden of Eden (Gen_3:24) and seemingly reflecting glory of the Lord (cf. Eze_10:3-4, Eze_10:18-20); as flanking the throne of God (Psa_99:1; cf. Isa_37:16 • Cherubim: highest order with indescribable power—appearance as man, lion,– four wings • Satan appears as – ‘Angel of light’, ‘Roaring lion’, etc.
God rides on Cherubim! • 2Sa 22:7 "In my distress I called upon the LORD, Yes, I cried to my God; And from His temple He heard my voice, And my cry for help came into His ears… • 2Sa 22:11 "And He rode on a cherub and flew; And He appeared on the wings of the wind.
He walked in Eden – so when was Eden complete? • Turn to Genesis 1 • We know Satan fell after walking in Eden! • Adam and Eve walked in Eden as well, so we know the fall must have taken place after Eden was finished, before mankind was created! • So now we must ask, why did Satan fall?
Isa 14:11 'Your pomp and the music of your harps Have been brought down to Sheol; Maggots are spread out as your bed beneath you And worms are your covering.' • Isa 14:12 "How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, You who have weakened the nations! • Isa 14:13 "But you said in your heart, 'I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north. • Isa 14:14 'I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.' • His sin was to usurp the hierarchy God established!
This is why women are not allowed to have authority over a man or teach a man… • To do so would be to rebel against the hierarchy that God established. • 1Co 11:3 But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ.
So, when women pray or prophesy publically they need to where a veil or covering – • The covering is not her hair.. • 1Co 11:6 For if a woman does not cover her head, let her also have her hair cut off; • And she must wear it on account of the angels…
1Co 11:10 Therefore the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. • ‘ought’ – to owe or be bound legally to a debt, to be legally commanded to perform a duty that one owes in fulfillment of a judgment.
It is a legal judgment because of Eve’s fall into sin… • Gen 3:16 To the woman He said, "I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you."
So we know that… All angels were originally created “holy.” God cannot create something that is sinful. Some angels chose not to obey God and sinned. Peter refers to “the angels that sinned” (2 Pet. 2:4). Jude mentions “the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation...” (Jude 6). Jesus referred to hell as “everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels” (Mt. 25:41). Evidently, Satan’s angels are the angels which chose to follow Lucifer in his quest for the worship that belonged to God.
Isaiah continued… • Isa 14:15 "Nevertheless you will be thrust down to Sheol, To the recesses of the pit. • This won’t happen until the second coming of Christ(Rev. 20:1-3) • Rev 20:2-3 And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; 3 and he threw him into the pit/abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed;
What we do know about Satan from New Testament revelation • “You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature; for he is a liar, and the father of lies. Jn. 8:44 • And the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. Rom. 16:20 • But I am afraid, lest as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds should be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. 2 Cor. 11:3 • And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 2 Cor. 11:14 • And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Rev. 12:9
Direct Activity He works directly by deception, temptation, attack and possession 1. In Christ’s ministry a. He tempted Christ (Matt.4:1-11). b. He attempted to thwart Christ’s work (John 8:44; Matt.16:23). c. He possessed Judas to accomplish the betrayal (John 13:27). 2.In unbelievers a.He blinds their minds to not understand of the gospel (2 Cor.4:4). b. When the gospel is heard or understood, he tries to hinder its effect (Luke 8:12). c. He uses persecution (Rev.2:10) and false religions (Rev.2:13) to hinder the effect of the gospel. 3. In believers a. He tempts believers (to pride – 1 Chron.21:1-8; to materialism – John 2:15; James 5:1-7; to immorality – 1 Cor.7:5; to lie – Acts 5:3; to discouragement – 1 Pet.5:6-10; to beunforgiving – 2 Cor.2:10,11). b. He hinders the ministries of believers (1 Thess.2:18; Rev.2:10). c. He promotes false teaching among believers (1 John 4:1-4). d. He promotes anger, bitterness and division (Eph4:26,27; 2 Cor2:5-11).
He inspires false prophets and is able to do false miracles • Mat 24:24 "For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.
Thus we are commanded to test • 1Jn 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Much revival in the Church today is false revival! • 1Ti 4:1 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, • 1Ti 4:2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron,
Signs of False revival • Raw emotionalism • Sorcery rather than true miracles • Fortune telling rather than true words from God • Spiritual drunkenness, laughter, loss of control • Much of what occurs is contrary to the fruit of the Spirit: Galatians 5:18
Why is there sickness, death, and bad things in the world? • Because we gave title deed of the earth to Satan! • Joh 10:10 "The thief(Satan) comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
In the beginning, God gave the earth to mankind…Gen 1:26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
God gave us all authority over the earth with only one rule…Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Indeed, has God said, 'You shall not eat from any tree of the garden'?"
Some say the serpent isn’t Satan… • Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world
Gen 3:2 The woman said to the serpent, "From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; Gen 3:3 but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.'" Gen 3:4 The serpent said to the woman, "You surely will not die! Gen 3:5 "For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
Satan became the ruler of this world at this point – when man broke covenant with God and was cast out of the garden.Title deed of the earth was given from man to Satan.
Mat 4:8 Again, the devil *took Him to a very high mountain and *showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; Mat 4:9 and he said to Him, "All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me."
Act 26:18 to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.' • Now, the Earth is Satan’s dominion…
For now he still reigns over the earth and has access to heaven Job 1:6 ... 6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. 7 And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?” So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”
He now is ruler of this world • Mat 4:8 Again, the devil *took Him to a very high mountain and *showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; • Mat 4:9 and he said to Him, "All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me." • Mat 4:10 Then Jesus *said to him, "Go, Satan! For it is written, 'YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'"
Ephesians 2:2: ... And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,
