DCL • Descriptive classifier sign used to describe an object or a person (i.e., DCL “curly hair”). Sometimes referred to as size and shape specifiers or SASSes. Objectives, attachments, people descriptions, patterns, textures.
LCL • Locative classifier sign representing an object in a specific place (and sometimes indicating movement) Furniture arrangement, objects on furniture.
SCL • Semantic classifier sign representing a category of nouns such as vehicle or person. Handshape is given, followed by information about specific movement (i.e., SCL: 1 “person walking stiffly and hurriedly”).
BCL • Body classifier sign in which the body “enacts” the verb of the sentence. Role shifting is usually required (i.e., BCL “acting macho:, BCL put arms around friend”).
ICL • Instrument classifier sign in which part of the body (usually the hands) manipulates an object (i.e., ICL “turn crank” or ICL “play jacks”).
BPCL • Bodypart classifier sign representing a specific part of the body doing the action. (2h) BPCL: 1 “crossing legs”, (2h) BPCL: B “taps foot”).
PCL • Plural classifier sign, indicating either specific number or non-specific number (i.e., PCL: 3 “three people walking”, PCL: 4 “long line of people”, PCL: 5 “hordes of……”).
ECL • Element classifier sign representing an element of the earth, such: rain, wind/smoke/gas, fire and light. These are usually made with either the 5-handshape or the 1-hanshape (i.e., ECL: 5 wiggle “waterfall”, ECL: 1 “water dripping from a faucet”).
“PICTURE MY CLASSIFIER” DUE: April 11th/12th2012
AssignmentDUE: April 11th/12th 2012 • Students will find 5 personal pictures, old or new. (baby pictures, family pictures, you and your friends, birthday party pictures, prom pictures, etc.) • Each picture has to identify at least 1 classifier! • For each picture you will write in English and gloss a sentence using that classifier that has been identified in the picture. • Pictures should be glued or taped to construction paper and sentences should be below the picture. • Also, underneath the sentence write what the classifier is in the picture, and tell what that classifier represents! • You will present “Picture My Classifier” in front of the class. It is due on April 11th / 12th 2012
