The Cree Flood Myth By: Matthew Kercheval, Grant Garcia, Stephanie Hanawalt, Siri Rallabhandi, and Michelle Martinez
And one day when Wissaketchak was paddling in his canoe the sea monster lashed the sea with his tail making large waves crash onto the land
He then called all the animals to come on a raft with him that he had built for the flood
And the sea monster kept thrashing his tail until the flood covered the mountains
After a few days on the raft the sea monster left and he sent out a duck to dive and find land
But the water was still too deep and the duck unfortunately drowned
The muskrat came back with dirt in its mouth and Wissaketchak took the dirt and made a patch of dirt and it floated on the water. This is where the muskrat nest comes from.
He used his magic to make the patch of dirt grow more and more until it became the land we now inhabit
