TOURISM IN THE BAHAMAS The climate is Tropical Marine which is similar to the rest of the Caribbean. Tourism accounts for nearly half the country’s GDP. Tourism is successful here because of the following factors:
Geographical Location Bahamas is the closest Caribbean territory to the U.S.A, so it is ideally located to attract on of the largest tourist markets. There are 50 airstrips to accommodate flights and cruise ships make daily calls to Freeport and Nassau.
Physical Features Sun: The warm subtropical marine climate with mildly cool but dry winter months, makes it ideal especially for those in the north wanting to escape the bitter cold. Sand: The beaches consist of white coral sand beaches. Sea: Warm crystal clear waters.
Human Factors Most residents of the Bahamas are involved in tourism or tourism related economic activities. Most of the jobs are in restaurants, hotels or souvenirs.
Economic The Government has given special tax concessions to developers, especially in large resorts. Bahamas has some of the largest resorts in the Caribbean. Infrastructure is well developed. Advertisement and management is carried out by a tourist board.
