Are you looking forUndergraduate or Postgraduate? • Undergraduate Routes • BEd Primary & Early Primary • The BEd Primary and Early Primary courses are three-year undergraduate degrees leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). They involve school placements in each of the three years. • Education and Specialist Related Areas • Education & Specialist-Related Area (ESRA) courses are undergraduate degrees in various areas of education. They are a great form of preparation for PGCE Primary as they cover all kinds of education-related areas. • Postgraduate Routes • PGCE Primary • The PGCE Primary is a one-year course for graduates who wish to train as primary teachers. Students develop the skills that are needed to become an effective teacher and contains two placements to gain valuable teaching experience. • Employment-based initial teacher training • Employment-based routes in to teaching allow trainees to work in a school and follow an individual training programme leading to QTS. 4. Bachelor in Education (BEd)Primary and Early Primary • About the course • BEd courses are 3-year degree programmes leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). 5. ESRA CoursesEducation & Specialist-Related Areas • About ESRA Courses • Education and Specialist Related Area (ESRA) courses allow students to specialise in an area of study of their choice. Although not leading to Qualified Teacher Status, they prepare students for many education-related areas of work. • ESRA courses are innovative undergraduate programmes that explore key issues relating to education in contemporary society. 6. Postgraduate routesPGCE Primary Education • About the PGCE Primary • The PGCE Primary is a one-year (full-time) course for graduates leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The focus is on teaching the National Curriculum for primary schools and specialising in teaching Key Stages 1 and 2. • This practically-based course has a strong theoretical back up and includes two placements in primary schools to gain valuable teaching experience. • Learning is through experience, exploration and research, and is technology supported. All modules provide examples of good teaching practice and you will be expected to actively participate in your own learning and development. 9. Choose your route toSecondary Teacher Training • PGCE Secondary Education • The PGCE Secondary Education is a one-year full-time programme leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). This route prepares students to become confident, effective teachers in their chosen subject area. • Employment-based initial teacher training • Employment-based teacher training involves the trainee being employed in a school as an unqualified teacher with much of the training being undertaken in school in conjunction with the University. • What subjects are available? • Biology • Business Education • Chemistry • Design & Technology • English • ICT • Mathematics • Modern Foreign Languages • Physical Education • Psychology • Physics • Science • Applicants should have a UK Honours degree (or equivalent) related to their chosen subject. Postgraduate RoutesPGCE Secondary Education • About the course • This excellent one-year course is for graduates who wish to train as secondary school teachers. • The course consists of two periods of University-based learning at the Walsall Campus, in which all modules provide examples of good practice in teaching, which you will reflect upon as you develop your own teaching style. • Furthermore, the teaching methods used prepare you for life in the classroom including teacher-led debates, pupil-led exploration, peer-group discovery and provision of individual targets. • You will undertake placements at two different schools to give you a variety of experience and developing the skills essential to becoming a confident and effective teacher. • Your University tutor is available to assist you throughout your training, and every effort is made to ensure you have a high-quality school placement, where you can learn from experienced teachers. • Why Wolverhampton? • We are rated Outstanding by Ofsted for our secondary teaching training. • Train in a specially–designed teaching building equipped with the latest teaching technology. • High-quality student support from module and personal tutors. • Entry Requirements • A UK-recognised honours degree or equivalent in your subject. Find out more about thePGCE Post-Compulsory Education • Which route to take? • Generic Route • Incorporating PTLLS, this course is for applicants who wish to teach their subject specialism in the Lifelong Learning Sector. • We are particularly interested in applications from individuals wishing to teach Early Years, Health and Social Care, Performing Arts, IT, Science, English, Leisure and Tourism, Sports Studies/Exercise Science, Business Studies, and Engineering. • Integrated Route • This course is for applicants who wish to teach Literacy, Numeracy or ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) as well as their subject specialism. • These routes are offered and taught by the University of Wolverhampton at the Walsall Campus. • Why Wolverhampton? • Train in a specially–designed teaching building equipped with the latest technology. • High-quality student support from module and personal tutors. • Ofsted rated Grade 2: Good for Post-Compulsory education teacher education. • Entry Requirements • A UK-recognised honours degree (preferably 2:1 or above) plus GCSE maths and English grade C or above, or equivalent. • For the Integrated Route you should normally possess a Level 3 Literacy, Language or cognate subject. 14. CertEd Diploma in Teaching in theLifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) • About the course • This is a part-time, fast track, four semester course run over two academic years which will include inter-semester teaching and assessment. One day per week is spent at the Walsall Campus and one day per week is spent in a placement setting. • The course provides the full range of accreditation that can support an application for Qualified Teacher status in the Lifelong Learning sector (QTLS). It incorporates the PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) and CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector) and it is aimed at new teachers. • The DTLLS attracts a bursary of £2000 - £3500 per year dependent upon subject specialism. Find out more about Employment-based initial teacher training • Graduate Teacher Programme • An on-the-job training programme that allows graduates to qualify as a teacher while they work. • Registered Teacher Programme • Allows non-graduates with some experience of Higher Education to complete their degree and qualify as a teacher at the same time. • Overseas trained teacher programme • Teachers who have trained in another country and have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in that country, may apply to become a QTS in the UK. • Assessment-only route • If you already have a degree and substantial experience of working in a UK school as an instructor or unqualified teacher, or as a teacher in a independent school or further education institution, you may be able to apply with minimal teacher training. • Get Experience … • For all teaching courses it is essential to have experience in the classroom to support your application. • Find out how to get teaching experience on the TDA website

17. Employment-Based Initial Teacher TrainingThe Graduate Teacher Programme • About the course • On the Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) you are employed as an unqualified teacher in a school, which pays you an unqualified teacher's salary. It is available for both primary and secondary applicants and there are no tuition fees payable by the student. • The GTP is particularly suitable for those that need to keep earning an income during their training, such as mature people who are changing career. The training on the GTP is tailored to meet your individual needs. • The GTP is normally completed in one year as a full-time programme. 18. Employment-Based Initial Teacher TrainingThe Registered Teacher Programme • About the course • The Registered Teacher Programme (RTP) is very similar to the Graduate Teacher Programme. This programme is open to non-degree holders who have successfully completed two years (or time equivalent) higher education and are completing the final third of a degree programme. Successful applicants are usually working for their degree on a part-time basis and follow the RTP programme at the same time as working in a school. 19. Employment-Based Initial Teacher TrainingThe Overseas Trained Teacher Programme (OTTP) • About the course • Teachers who have been trained in another country and have qualified teacher status in that country, may apply for assessment for QTS in the UK. To do so they must be employed in a school. OTTPs are assessed against the same standards as trainee teachers on other routes. • Following an initial assessment, overseas trained teachers may be able to progress directly to assessment against the standards for QTS. Others may require training in identified areas. 20.
