About CVSA • A non-profit 501(c)(3) trade association • 70 Members, 450 Associate Members • Began at industry’s urging in 1982 with several western States and Canadian provinces • Why was it initiated? • Safety was a concern ------ deregulation • Need for uniformity and reciprocity in regulation, standards, and enforcement • How does it work? • Support from public and private sectors critical • All CMV disciplines at the table and involved in setting and maintaining the standards • Focused agenda, clear expectations and results • Open the doors from the get-go • Processes and procedures for input and output are explicit and inclusive

North American Standard Inspection Program Approximately four-million commercial motor vehicle inspections are conducted every year throughout North America to ensure trucks and buses driving on the highways are operating safely.

COHMED Cooperative Hazardous Materials Enforcement Development Program • Improving hazardous materials transportation safety • Providing technical assistance, training and information for the development of federal, state, and local enforcement programs • Fostering national uniformity in regulation and enforcement.
COHMED • Focuses training towards both law enforcement and industry. • International training classes help industry on ways to comply with regulations while traveling into Canada. • Provides a conduit for industry to present concerns/perspective about the enforcement of the regulations. • Offers hands on class experience thanks to companies providing equipment during the training.

Train the Trainer Course • State trainer must attend every two years • Includes 8 hour version of U.S. DOE MERRTT • Emphasis on hands-on work projects • Students instruct preselected modules • Level VI proficiency quiz
