A well- maintained HVAC system, along with a better understanding of how your system work, can improve indoor air quality (IAQ) dramatically. Here's how to get started: 1 2 3 4
Select an air filter with a high MERV rating. The highest rating, the better the filter is at trapping particles that can cause discomfort and reduce air quality.
Vent bathrooms and laundry room directly outdoors. By using quite, energy-efficient fans, you can make a big impact on your home's air quality while not impacting noise levels.
Make sure fireplaces, heaters, range tops, furnaces or any other fuel-burning equipment are vented to the outside away from windows and heating/air conditioning intakes. This stops harmful fumes from re-entering your home's HVAC system.
Turn on your HVAC system while vacuuming. Vacuuming a home stirs particle of dust and dirt into the air. By running your HVAC system, you'll catch these particles and remove them from the air.
