As per the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act of the United States, the infant formula is a special diet appropriate solely for the infants and is completely or partially equivalent to the mother's milk. The Composition of Infant Formula: The Infant Milk Formula​ is solely based on the mother's milk and the manufacturers have managed to include the nutrients present in the milk of a mother at one to three months postpartum. Nevertheless, there are some differences regarding the nutrients of the infant formula. The main composition of the formula based food includes the purified cow's milk which is a protein source. The purified whey and casein present in the milk are used for manufacturing infant formula. Apart from this, the other main constituents include the fat source which is probably a merge of vegetable oils, lactose which acts as the carbohydrate source, a mixture of vitamin and minerals along with other components. The varieties in the infant formula: In addition there are also infant formulas that use the soy formulas, partially hydrolyzed formula, extensively hydrolyzed formula and amino-acid based formula. These substitutes act as the best alternatives for the babies with milk allergy. In partially hydrolyzed formulas, milk proteins such as whey are further broken down into superior pieces. However, some infants tend to react to these large proteins. Extensively hydrolyzed formulas are hypo-allergic and make available the complete nutrition to babies who are experiencing indigestion. Amino-acid based formulas are elemental formulas and supply nutrition to the infants with extreme protein hypersensitivity. However, the formula food may contain components like vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and B12, C, D, E, K, fat, protein, folic acid, pantothenic acid, linoleic acid, niacin, calcium, minerals like zinc, iron, magnesium, copper and manganese, iodine, phosphorus, potassium chloride, sodium chloride, and carbohydrates.
