4. What food did they eat? How did they get it? In this slide I will tell you how they talentedly caught their food and what they ate. They ate fish, elk, deer, and bear. They used bow and arrows and coveredthemselves in animal hide for camouflage. Salmon would swim upstream into baskets or the would spear them. I wouldn’t want to do that for my food. 5. Where did they live? Do you live with the Modoc? You probably don’t know. The Modoc lived on the American Black Volcanic Plateau. They lived on the border between modern-day Oregon and California. That is far away from my house! Back to Table of Contents http://quest.eb.com/images

6. What games did they play? These Native-American are easy to play. Try it. The Modoc would play “The Chief” were one player would guess witch hand the bone was in. They also would bet. They bet anything they could find. They would say chants and pass a rock to see who would be it for games. I don’t think they were on computer 24/7. 7. What were there houses like? Do you have two houses? Well the Modoc did. They had winter houses that were dug into a pit 3-4 feet deep. Round holes on the roof were entrances. Roof beams would support mats or earth. Summer houses were permanent on water ways. That is a lot of work for tiny houses. Back to Table of Contents http://quest.eb.com/images

8. What materials from there environment did they use to make what? Native American were very talented because they could only use things from there environment. They used plant fibers, grasses, and tree bark for baskets. They would kill animals for bone tools and animal hide clothes. They used chipped obsidian which is made by cooled volcanic gases for war heads. I don’t build things from my backyard. Back to Table of Contents http://quest.eb.com/images

9. What did the women do? Stop complaining about all of your chores look what the Modoc women did. They had to do cooking for the men and children and they had to get the food too. They had to get fuel for the fires, make clothes for there family, make animal skin roofs, and do daily house chores too! I wouldn’t want to do that everyday. They also had to make baskets for fishing, cooking, and trade. They also made mats for trade. I’m glad I don’t have to do all those chores. Back to Table of Contents http://quest.eb.com/images

10. Did they use money? What form? You use dollars and coins to pay for everything, right? Well the Modoc used shells and even blankets! The trade is a big part of survival in Native Americans life. They traded warheads, blankets, mats, and baskets. Shells were considered money. They called them “Dentalium”. I trade but I don’t find money in my backyard.
