  2. Problems • “Students who have been equipped with augmentative communication systems attent school in environments that do not provide a range of communication opportunities. As a result the systems are used only minimally or may be abandoned completely.” • Program the device for content specific areas (time consuming, limited information)

  3. Strategies • Can be used to establish a communication circle of peer support. • Train teachers and students • Use in community and in school • Recognize learned helplessness

  4. Activity • Planting a Flower: Sequencing the steps • Provide class with cut out pictures of steps to sequence • Child who is nonverbal – Use Go Talk with prerecorded steps and premade images of each step. • Child with limited language – Provide key words with a graphic organizer.
