Qualities ofColor Hue - color name. A synonym for color (i.e., blue) Saturation - synonym: intensity. How brightor dullthe pigment is. Temperature - perceived as warmor cool Value- how lightor darka color is
Saturation - How bright or dull the pigment is. Which color here is most saturated?
Primary Colors • "Primary" = first • Can be mixed together to make all other colors of the color wheel • "Pure" pigments. Cannot be made by mixing two colors together
Secondary Colors • Created by mixing two primary colors together
Tertiary (Intermediate) Colors Created by mixing a primary color with a secondary color red + orange = red-orange
Monochromatic Color • "mono" = one • same hue, different values (light to dark) or saturation (dull to bright)
Complementary Colors • Across from one another on the color wheel • Strong contrast - draws attention
Analogous Colors • Next to each other on the color wheel
