TEI of PiraeusGeneral Information • TEI-Piraeus is located in Athens-Egaleo, in the historic district of Elaionas (the Olivier of Athens). It is claimed by archaeologists that this was the location of the Academy of Plato in ancient Athens. • TEI-Piraeus was established in 1983. • Students are accepted to study in TEI-Piraeus through national ranking examinations after having completed secondary education. • TEI-Piraeus offers both theoretical and practical education in undergraduate (BA / BSc) and graduate (MSc) level. • Research is a major activity enhanced by our interaction with the productive forces of the society and the economy.
TEI of Piraeus - Facts and Figures • Two (2) Faculties, ten (10) enrolling Departments, two (2) non-enrolling Departments (Maths and Physics/Chemistry), two (2) supporting Centers for Languages and Sports. • Total enrollment around 15,000 students, Academic Staff of 150 tenured professors and approx. 250 full-time adjunct professors. Administrative Staff of 250, including lab technicians. • Own premises on Athens-Egaleo campus (nine major buildings), with Academic and Digital Library, Computing Center, Sports facilities, Students dinning facilities – no student dorms facilities. • Currently Running • An ERASMUS & International Relations Office, • A Liaison Office offering Career and Student • Counseling Services, • A Placement Office, • An IEEE Student Branch, an IET Branch, • and many more …

TEI of PiraeusDepartment of Electronics Eng. • Established in 1948 in an early form – the ‘eldest’ among TEI-Piraeus departments. • Undergraduate curriculum is 4 years full-time (BSc level), while Graduate curricula are 2 years full-time (MSc level). • Enrollment of about 160 new students per year – total enrollment of about 1000 students. • Current academic staff of 25 tenured professors and about 25 adjunct professors. • Major fields of interest: Telecommunications, Computer Systems & Data Networks, Analogue and Digital Systems, Embedded Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Audio & Video Technology, Advanced Materials for Electronics Apps, Electromagnetism, Antennae & Propagation, etc.
TEI of PiraeusDepartment of Electronics Eng. • Undergraduate curriculum of about 40 subjects (75% of them include mandatory laboratory hours). • Regularly updated to keep up with new science and technology facts (1998, 2003, 2008, …) • Undergraduate studies are interlaced with the electronics industry and services sector. The students are obliged to a six months placement for practical training before graduation. • Active role in two graduate courses: • MSc in “Networking and Data Communication” (in collaboration with Kingston University, London, UK, • MSc in “ICT for Education”, in collaboration with National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. • All academic staff members are active in building international relations through staff and student exchange and mobility programs, (ERASMUS, TEMPUS, LEONARDO, COST, etc.)

Quality in Education As of 2008, full observation of national and european education quality assurance procedures set by: • ENQA (European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education) • HQAA (Hellenic Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education) The Diploma Supplement is issued in greek and in english, for all our graduates. Undergraduate and graduate curricula have been restructured according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) to support student mobility.

Research Policy aiming towards • Major and “classic” areas of electronics (electronic devices and systems, measurements and E/M radiation, industrial electronics, telecommunications and computer networks: mobile / satellite / wireless / optical, audio and video processing and broadcasting systems, multimedia networking), • Emerging areas of contemporary research interest, which constitute fields of cross-disciplinary cooperation, such as organic electronics, wearable electronics, multifunctional materials and electronics, electronics for the environment and for renewable energy sources, etc., • The research topic of ICT for Education, which is a field of interest across disciplines.
