Study Guide!! • I am going to give you a review sheet, that you must study, along with your notes!! • Some of the boxes are filled out, others you will write down. • As I pass it out, please take out a highlighter!! • This foldable will be a quick review guide to what you have to review • Note: this is a guide-meaning you still have to study all of your notes on these topics!
Partner Practice!! • You and your partner are going to receive a packet. Please do not write on it. • You will have about 20 minutes to complete it. • There are two passages. BEFORE YOU ANSWER THE QUESTIONS, PLEASE WRITE A SUMMARY (3-4 SENTENCES). • Answer the questions on the left side of your notebook. • If you need any help, please make sure you ask!!
Beach Ball Game!! • We will play a quick beach ball game, but afterwards, you have to re-focus and continue working!!

After that, I got toothpaste all over my t-shirt. Next, my dog tripped me in the kitchen, and I got cereal all over my pants. I finally decided to leave for school, hoping the day would get better.

After all, “finders keepers!” He thought that all the money in the wallet would help him out and make him rich; however, once he kept the wallet, he started to have very bad luck with money. The next day, another boy found another wallet on the street. He thought about his options and decided to turn it into the police station. The owner of the wallet went to the station and rewarded the young boy with $500.

When she picked up, she was so happy that we were having a good time.

Sentences • 1.) Clauses • -An independent clause is a group of words that contains a noun and verb and express a complete thought. A subordinate (dependent) clause CANNOT be a sentence on its own. • Write an example: _________________________________________________

Sentence types (Think of these sentences like math formulas!) • _________________ clause = simple sentence • (e.g.: The dog went to the park.) • __________________ clause + ___________________ clause = compound sentence • (e.g.: The dog went to the park, so he could play with his friends.) • ______________________ clause + __________________ clause = complex sentence • (e.g.: When the dog went to the park, his owner brought his tennis ball.)

Conjunctions • For shows reason. I like to read mystery novels, for I love suspense. • And shows addition. She goes to the beach, and she takes her dog. • Nor adds a negative. I don’t like garlic, nor do I like onions. • But shows opposition. He won’t get into the concert, but he can try. • Or shows an alternative. I will take my kids to a movie, or I will stay home. • Yet shows exception. I want to lose weight, yet I eat chocolate daily. • So shows a result. I will study the fanboys, so I can impress my teacher.
