Examples Picture 1: The picture uses appeal to fear by showing a horrific image to state the point to vote republican, or have horror come upon you. Crucible example • Abigail: “Now look at you. All of you. We danced. And Tituba conjured Ruth Putnam's dead sisters. And that is all. And mark this. Let either of you breathe a word, or the edge of a word, about other things, and I will come to you in in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you. And you know I can do it; I saw Indians smash my dear parents heads on the pillow next to me, and I have seen some reddish work done at night, and I can make you a wish you had never seen the sun go down!” • Act 1, Pg. 175 • -This show appeal to fear by Abigail threatening the audience that if they speak a word she will kill them. She gives deep detail on how her parents were killed and how she would use her methods to kill them.
Crucible Example • Parris: “You will confess yourself or I will take you out and whip you to your death, Tituba!” • Act 1, page 188. • -In this sentence Parris explains to Tituba that if she doesn’t confess he will whip her to death. It makes her go with confession because it is the easy way out that she seems to think. She is scared only because Parris makes her fear death by whipping.
