Stir Up the Gift 2 Timothy 1:6-8; 1 Timothy 4:14
Everyone Has a Gift • God has given gifts to each of us (Romans 12:6; 1 Peter 4:10) • Each gift derives its potential in us from the limitless power of God (Colossians 1:29; Ephesians 3:20; Philippians 2:13)
Our Gifts Vary • Not everyone has the same ability (Romans 12:6a) • Like parts of the body, each has its function (1 Corinthians 12:13-22) • Our gifts are designed to be used in harmony with others (Psalm 139:14; 1 Peter 2:5; Ephesians 2:21-22)
Stir Up The Gifts! • We must “use them” (Romans 12:6) • We must “minister” them (1 Peter 4:10-11)
Do Not Allow Fear to Smother Your Gift! • The spirit of fear is not from God! (2 Timothy 1:7; Proverbs 29:25) • Fear can be overcome by understanding the privilege and joy of using your gift (Psalm 84:10) • Focus on function, not fear – work not worry. (Luke 10:2; Proverbs 6:6; 1 Cor 15:58; Nehemiah 4:6)
See the Opportunity to Stir Up Your Gift! • Change and transition often provide opportunities. • If you have been waiting to stir up your teaching ability, this could be the time! (Hebrews 5:12; Titus 2:3; 2 Timothy 2:2) • Fill the void! (Acts 18:18-28)
