C.A.F.E. • C. Comprehension~ I understand what I read • A. Accuracy~ I can read the words. • F. Fluency~ I can read accurately, with expression and understand what I read. • E. Expand Vocabulary~ I know, find, and use interesting words.
Daily Five~ Read to Self • Students choose a “good-fit” book and comfortable place in the room. They relax and read for twenty minutes.
Daily Five- Read to Someone • Students read with a partner to improve their fluency. They take turns or choral read.
Daily Five~ Word Work • The students work to build their vocabulary skills: prefix, suffix, Greek/Latin roots, antonyms, synonyms, homophones, making words.
Daily Five~Writing • The students work on various writing skills and pieces. They also respond to reading.
Daily Five~Listening • The students use the new mini-Dell laptops to work on Raz-Kids Reading.
What Parents are Saying • “My child has never been more excited about reading!” • “My child read for four hours this weekend!” • “I don’t know what you all are doing, but it is has changed how my child feels about reading!”
What We are Saying • We can better meet the needs of all students performing at any level-performance-based and collaboration! • We are building relationships in the C.A.F.E. • We are working on skills that are too often left out of reading instruction for our grade level.
