III. The Pilgrimage and Tales • A pilgrimage is a journey of moral significance • Chaucer’s pilgrims travel to honor martyr Saint Thomas Becket (reasons: hope of heavenly reward, penance, etc.) • Tales from each pilgrim “pass the time” on the journey
