UIC update • First product certified in November 2001 • 28 member companies, 36 certified devices • International certification mark registration in process in 24 countries Argentina, Australia, Benelux region, Brazil, Canada, China, Columbia, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States • Building awareness with initial marketing

Certification process • Prerequisite: UPnP Forum membership • Step 1: Join the UIC • execute membership agreement • pay annual membership dues ($5,000) • Step 2: Test device(s) • download test tool (v1.3.1) • run tests • Step 3: Submit test logs • fill in forms (members section of UIC website) • remit device registration fee: ($2,000) • Receive certification award
Certification process common questions (1) • What is the process for OEMs? • OEMs can utilize their vendor’s UIC certification • OEM must join UIC and register device;no additional device fee • What is the registration fee for additional devices from a manufacturer? • Current 2002 policy: if the devices use the same firmware, no additional fee • Policy under review
Certification process common questions (2) • What about Basic Devices? • Basic Devices cannot be certified since they don’t implement the required functionality • Basic Devices cannot use UPnP cert mark • Use the "UPnP Forum Member" logo as part of marketing collateral • But don’t use the “UPnP Forum Member” logo on the devices themselves. • Appropriate marketing phrase: "Compliant with the Basic Device DCP as approved by the UPnP Forum"
Certification logo & trademark usage • UPnP Forum Member Logo Forum members can use the member logo to indicate support of UPnP Forum activities. • UPnP certification mark Reserved for use with UPnP certified devices. (certification logo used for presentation example only)
