UPnP Logo Usage Guidelines Rob Ranck Executive director, UIC Global Inventures, Inc.
Certification logo & trademark usage • UPnP Forum Member Logo Forum members can use the member logo to indicate support of UPnP Forum activities • UPnP certification mark Reserved for use with UPnP certified devices (certification logo used for presentation example only)
Certification logo & trademark usagecommon questions (1) • How should the UPnP Forum Member logo be used? • use the Forum Member logo with *company* marketing collateral • not to be used to badge products or packaging
Certification logo & trademark usagecommon questions (2) • How should the UPnP certification logo graphic be used? • Only on UIC certified devices and packaging • Product-specific marketing collateral • How should the “UPnP” word mark be used? • Same basic guidelines as logo graphic • OK to use as an adjective-descriptor for UIC certified devices (e.g. BrandX UPnP camera)
Certification logo & trademark usagecommon questions (3) • Is it OK to use “UPnP” word mark apart from certified products? • Yes, but only as an adjective-descriptor for terms that are clearly NOT devices (e.g. “UPnP architecture”, “UPnP standard”) • Why is using the term, “Universal Plug and Plug (UPnP)”, not OK? • Because it equates the UPnP mark with a general, descriptive phrase as opposed to using the mark to specifically indicate product certification.
Certification logo & trademark usagecommon questions (4) • Can I use the UPnP certification or word mark with an SDK product? • no, the mark is for certified devices only • instead, use the UPnP Forum Member logo • use phrases such as “SDK for development of UPnP devices”
Certification logo & trademark usagecommon questions (5) • Can the UPnP certification logo be used with Basic Devices? • since Basic Devices do not implement full UPnP functionality, they cannot be registered or certified • use UPnP Forum Member logo • use phrases such as “Compliant with the basic device DCP as approved by the UPnP Forum“
