Habitat The Chilean flamingo lives in Peru and south Brazil to Argentina. They are usually found in coastal mudflats, estuaries, lagoons and salt lakes.
Adaptation # 1 The Chilean flamingo often stands on one leg, tucking the other beneath it’s body to preserve body heat. It helps keep it’s body warm in cold weather.
Adaptation #2 The Chilean flamingo’s bill is equipped with comb-like structures that enable it to filter food-mainly algae. This helps it get the food it needs.
Interesting facts The Chilean Flamingo can grow up to 40 inches in height. They live in flocks in the wild and require crowded conditions to help breeding. During breeding season, males and females display a variety of behaviors to attract mates, including head flagging-swiveling their heads from side to side.
