EVENTS TO LOOK FORWARD TO… AFC Thursday, May 29 in LT and classrooms GRADE 8 COD Monday, June 2 Meet at school at 7:30 Welcome to High School Friday, May 30 – various HS classrooms 7:30-noon (early release) AWARDS CEREMONY Tuesday, June 3 in the FAT 7.30-9:30 am DINNER DANCE Friday, 30stMay in the Lofthouse 7 – 10 pm GRADE 8 FUN DAY Tuesday, June 3 various on campus sites – 11-3 pm MOVING ON CEREMONY Wednesday, June 4 in the FAT 4-6pm; meet in AMR at 3pm sharp NO SCHOOL June 5

  3. DRESS DINNER DANCE Friday, May 30 in the Lofthouse7-10 pm • Ladies • Young ladies can wear anything from a simple party dress to a gown. Bare bellies, and apron type tops are not acceptable. • Please don’t feel like gowns are necessary since this is a dinner-dance and not a prom. • Dresses may be strapless as long as they are tasteful. • Gentlemen • Young gentlemen should wear a coat and tie, shirt and tie or barong with dress shoes and socks. • No sneakers or jeans • All • Students may be asked to return home for a change of clothing if their overall appearance is unacceptable for the occasion. Students will be allowed to go home early @ lunch on the day to get ready.

  4. COMMUNITY OUTREACH DAY (COD)Monday, June 2 • Sign-ups by email or via the Grade 8 Blog • Orientation Session in Site Leaders’ Classrooms during Advisory - TBA • Meet at school at 7:30 am as usual (CCV meets at 6:45 in ES Playground / Stairway meets Saturday morning)

  5. GRADE 8 FUN DAY Tuesday, June 3 Thanks to the wonderful help of a few volunteer mothers… We are in the process of planning a great day for you! Watch this space. 

  6. DRESS MOVING ON CEREMONY Wednesday, June 4 in the FAT 4-6pm • Ladies • Ladies should dress in smart-casual wear. Spaghetti straps, bare backs/bellies or halters are not acceptable. • Blouse/slacks or a dress are considered proper attire. Jeans should not be worn. • Wear comfortable shoes that will allow you to walk up/down the risers. No sneakers. • Gentlemen • Gentlemen should dress in smart-casual wear. • A dress shirt or barong with nice slacks is considered proper attire. • Jacket/ties are optional • No sneakers or jeans. • All • Students may be asked to return home for a change of clothing or be asked to sit out the ceremony if their overall appearance is unacceptable for the occasion.

  7. MOVING ON CEREMONY Wednesday, May 30 in the FAT 4-6pm Do you want to be more involved? SPEECHES AWARDS SOLOS SPEECHES Mr. Burke and a panel of grade 8 teachers will be doing interviews for the MC’s for the Ceremony and to give out the speech for the class. Try Outs –Sign up outside Mr. Burkes room by Friday May 10.

  10. WHAT MAKES A GOOD LEADER? Solid interpersonal and communication skills Highly organized and motivated Strong goal-orientated qualities Sound understanding of school procedures and protocols Specific strengths in public speaking, accounting, and IT, depending on role within council Strong involvement in a council/club/team with visible leadership qualities

  11. WHAT DOES THE COUNCIL DO? The council work with the Grade Level Coordinator and the Grade 9 Counselor, Mr. Ayling to plan various events. Grade Level Assemblies Fundraising Events Battle of the Bearcats (BOB) Class T Shirts

The process • An application form will be available on the blog today after school. • A committee will choose the top 10 applicants. • Finalists will deliver a 1 minute speeches during the Assembly on Wednesday, May 21. • Voting will occur via paper ballot at the end of the assembly. • Direct questions to Mr. Paulson (paulsonb@ismanila.org) or Ms. Mazarakis (MazarakisA@ismanila.org).
