WELCOMEto Mrs. Lafond’s class mrslafond.wordpress.com alafond@ montgomerycatholic.org
Teacher webpage • Contains up to date home work assignments and reminders • Quarterly calendars for English Classes • Syllabi for all classes • On-going project assignments
Calendars • Pre-planned with the whole year in mind, but only released quarterly. • Contains test dates as well as reading assignments. • Very useful for planned and unplanned absences. • Please make sure your student has printed and reviewed the current calendar.
On-going Projects • Book Talks • Writing tutorials • Research Projects • ***Your student should always be working on these for English.
Parent Contact • Primarily by e-mail. • Periodically send out announcements through e-mail.
Grading procedures • English Classes: • Tests/Writing: 60% • Projects:30% • Classwork/Quizzes: 5% • Homework/DGP: 5% • Public Speaking: • Speeches: 60% • Research Portfolios: 20% • Classwork/Homework/Quizzes: 20%
Late work policy • Because we cannot proceed with the writing process or other activities, late work will only be accepted one day late with a twenty percent deduction from the grade. • After one day? No credit • What if my child was sick? It must be a medically excused absence and is due upon return to class. • What if the printer broke/ran out of ink, computer crashed, book bag stolen, etc? Contact me immediately, e-mail any work you have completed. I will do my best to work with you, but I must see that you have been working. • **I do accept early work. All assignments submitted before the due date receive a five point bonus.
Tutorials • Offered daily, but once students begin doing book talks and writing tutorials, it is best to make an appointment.
Summer Reading • We will continue with this unit for two more weeks. • It will be assessed at the end of the unit. • It will appear on the semester exam.
