A little bit later… • Julia realizes that she also loves Proteus. • “Fire that's closest kept burns most of all” • Proteus is sent by his father to Milan with Valentine and must leave Julia. Inuit Stone Carving
… • Julia wants to visit Proteus in Milan, but Lucetta tells her that it is a long and dangerous journey. • Julia disguises herself as a man to avoid the advances of unwanted men. www.allposters.com
In Milan… • Proteus falls in love with Silvia. This makes a total of four men in love with her. • Julia (dressed as Sebastian) is used as a servant by Proteus who is attempting to claim his love to Silvia while he plots to destroy the other men’s chances. "... more hair than wit, and more faults than hairs, and more wealth than faults"
… • Silvia doesn’t want to marry Thurio (whom her father wants her to be with), instead she wishes to be with Valentine in Mantua. • Silvia runs off with a protector (Eglamour) but is caught by outlaws and captured while Proteus and Thurio form a search party to find their love. "O Valentine! This I endure for thee"
In the forest… • Proteus saves Silvia, but she is ungrateful. • Silvia claims to him her love for Valentine not knowing Valentine was hidden behind a bush. • Proteus attempts to rape her in anger, Sebastian (Julia) faints. 1st-art-gallery
… • When conscious, Sebastian realizes that he forgot to give Silvia the ring that Julia had given to Proteus. • Instead, he shows 2 rings: the one he was instructed to give Silvia, and one that had been given to Julia by Proteus.
Almost good again… • Julia reveals her identity and Proteus realizes that Julia is the most beautiful and decides he wants to marry her instead. • Valentine threatens Thurio to not touch Silvia and Thurio confesses that he doesn’t really love her. • The couples get married on the same day . "... by the honour of my ancestry I do applaud thy spirit... Sir Valentine, thou art a gentleman, and well derived"
