  2. Getting ready for next year! Kindergarten has changed a lot over the years, it isn’t the same as when we were in elementary school. Our learning is very rigorous! We are here to give you many ideas and resources for your child to begin preparing for a great kindergarten year. These are great websites to help prepare your child for kindergarten. All of these websites can be accessed though our Skyview website at www.skyview.adams12.org www.uniteforliteracy.com -Over 100 kindergarten level books * Current research says that in order for kindergarten students to be ready to read, they should have listened to and/or read 1,000 books before, entering school. www.starfall.com- Alphabet and reading games www.abcya.com - Literacy and math games by grade level Pebble Go- Science and social studies information

  3. Important Incoming Skills to have in place We spend much of the day moving and learning. It is vital that your child comes into kindergarten preparedso that we can maximize learning time. Please spend some time over the summer on the following skills: -Identifying letters/sounds out of order -Counting up to 50 -Writing own first name - Following 2 step oral directions (get your shoes on and then get your coat on) - Focusing for an extended amount of time (10 min.) A good time to practice this is at the dinner table without getting up. After your child masters this, then move to a more academic focused task (story time, handwriting, workbooks, computer, etc.) -Appropriate peer interactions such as turn-taking, sharing, resolving problems, and compromising. - Parents can do side by side coaching during play dates/social activities to help foster safe and appropriate behaviors

  5. A Typical day includes: Independent Reading Calendar Math (Everyday Math Curriculum) Guided Reading Groups Literacy Centers Writer’s Workshop Phonics Read Aloud Shared Reading Handwriting Science or Social Studies

  6. Specials Students will attend a “specials” class each day: P.E. Music Art Library lesson/checkout & computers are once per week
