  2. Planning Your Time Use • A Daily Schedule • Schedule- written plan for reaching your goals • Avoid wasting time • Procrastinate-to put off difficult or unpleasant tasks until later Table Talk: (3 minutes) How can you avoid wasting time? Where/When do we waste time?

  3. Improve Your Study Habits • A Place to Study • Your Study Schedule Table Talk: (5 minutes) List 3 other ways to improve your study habits What are some methods of studying that could make studying for school more efficient?

  4. Managing Your Energy • Food and Energy • Sleep and Energy • Physical Activity and Energy Table Talk: (11 minutes) How can food play a role in your energy? Sleep? How much sleep should you be getting? How does physical activity play a role in energy? What are some ways to manage your energy throughout the day?

  5. “Time is money” • Have you heard this before? • What does it mean?

  6. Examine your day: What is really important? • List the activities that you have to do in a day • List the activities that you want to do in a day • Prioritize your activities: Urgent and important (math test tomorrow), not urgent but important (science test next week), can be done when you have time (haircut)

Make A Time Budget (12 minutes) • Or a schedule can help you make the most of your time • But note- everyday is not the same and some days could have extra tasks • For example Wednesday night is your night to do the dishes On your own create a time budget based on yesterday- you do not need exact minutes Hours will work fine Example on next slide

Example • Sleep 8 hours • Shower, dressing, ready for school 1/2 hour • Breakfast 1/2 hour • Bus to school 1/2 hour • School 7 hours • Bus home 1/2 hour • Soccer practice 2 hours • Household chores 1/2 hour • Homework 2 hours • Dinner 1/2 hour • TV time 1 hour • Reading/personal time 1 hourTotal time spent:24 hours

  9. Take A Look • What items on your schedule was unnecessary? Remember you should have time each time for you • What “need” was not accomplished? • Did anything open your eyes? • Was there anything you wanted to do but ran out of time for?

  10. Recreate yesterday • Recreate your schedule based on your evaluation • Determine what is important to you (values) • For example: you want to watch the DVD everyone is talking about tonight, however you forgot about your science test. Which is a better use of your time?
