About us...Broadwater Consultants • Broadwater Consultants (BWC) Water Resource Division is a consulting and project management service established to provide a broad range of specialised Water Resource services to the mining and coal seam gas industry. • BWC provides cost-effective and practical project management and mine implementation services for the master planning and development of large scale water resource projects. We provide a total design and construction package, with a practical and efficient approach to project management and delivery, focusing on water and mine infrastructure. • BWC’s multi-disciplined team enables us to provide a complete project management service from master planning and feasibility/concept through to construction and ongoing system management. Through our diverse group we have excellent ongoing relationships with all the major manufacturers which allows us to ensure the best product is utilised for each application • Broadwater Consultants utilises a collective group of professional companies that compliment the need for a holistic approach to the ever expanding demand for water resource solutions within the mining and coal seam gas industry.
About us...TPH Projects • With over 25 years in the water industry and continuous engagement with the mining and energy since 2007 , we value greatly our reputation in the water and mining sectors. • The importance of delivery schedules, contractual requirements, and regulatory compliances are managed through formalized project management processes. • We have successfully completed over 3000 water projects for a wide range of corporate, governmental and private clients from Bega to Cairns. With major projects accounting for 30% of turnover, our non-project activities provide a buffer allowing the retention of experienced staff and equipment resources between major projects. This enables us to complete projects on schedule. • With around 100 full time staff (25 available for major projects) we have one of the largest permanent installation teams in Queensland incl. BSA Liscenced Plumbing and Electrical Contractors • Prequalified with Santos, Peabody, Arrow, Origin, Bechtel, Golding, Q Build, Department of Defense and others.
The Brief... BWC attended site on the 11th July with Trent Jackson, Project Manager for BMA. An inspection was carried out of the Site and a Brief was provided with the following being the critical criteria: • Reduce total site storage to 10GL (currently approx 47GL) • Daily system through flow of 10meg • Target ‘average’ evaporation Rate of 40% to 80% per day • System to be ‘Transportable’ with key components able to be moved if required • System to be fully Automated via Central Control with Weather Station • Ability to have System Data available at BMA Site Office • Evaporative Cannons preferred – with the following features: • Rotating Cannon • Self-contained unit i.e. Cannon, Pump & Controls • Transportable as one unit • Appropriate for Site conditions • Minimum Maintenance requirements • Floating Pumping System (Electrical) • Total Solution Package • Project Management • Design • Installation • Commissioning • Maintenance
The System... The system utilises 8 x Evaporative Cannons placed on shelf RL 185 which return the evaporative water back onto shelf RL 155 and into the reservoir. The Cannons are supplied via 2 x Submersible Pumps (providing 50% Standby) each mounted on a secured Pontoon. The entire system is automated via a Central Pumping and Control system on RL 185. An automated control system named IRRINET will provide complete control via Radio including a Weather Station which provides data to assist in maximising evaporation rates. Submersible Pump Stations: (2 off) • Poly Fabricated Pontoon • AISI Stainless Steel Screen • Decking • Handrail • Lifting Lug • Grindex ‘Mega N’ Submersible Pump • 80lps @ 65m • 400/3/50 2 pole • 90kW • 100m 70sqm 3 core cable
The System... Electrical Control Panel: Air Conditioned Container incl. • 240v Power & Lights • 2 x 110kW Soft Start / Soft Stop • Form 3B type tested 50kA for 1 second arc fault containment • IRRINET ‘ACE’ Central Communication Control Panel • Containerized Main distribution panel, incorporating Irrinet controls, and 2 x 90Kw Soft starters for submersible pontoon pumps. • 2 x IP65 Stainless Steel ESS Enclosed 200Amp Visible contact Load-Break switches for Pontoon pumps, installed on stands. • Hot Dipped galvanized cable tray, complete with covers & 35MM earth bonds, laid on Pine sleepers adjacent to pipe work. • 70MM2, 3 core & Earth V90 orange circular cables supplying, 8 x 90Kw Evaporative Cannons & 2 x 90Kw Pontoon pumps. • Screened Instrument cabling segregated from Power circuitry. • Engraved stainless steel cable I.D. tags. • Set of as constructed drawings, including cable schedules, Single line diagram, & control panel schematics. • Test results for all cabling and control circuits.
The System... Evaporative Cannons Units: • Vertical Multi Stage Booster Pump • Flow - 20 lps @140m • AISI 316 Stainless Steel • BMA Spec. Electric Motor – 37kW • Pump Control Panel to BMA Spec. • TORO IRRINET Piccolo XR 2/2 • E60 Evaporative Cannon • BMA Spec. Electric Motor – 45kW • Hot Dipped Galv. Base • AISI 316 Stainless Steel Nozzles, Fan, Fan Housing and Fasteners • 45° Elevation • Rotating Assembly • Average Droplet Size – 90 micron • Inlet Strainer
The System... Filter / Water Meter Assembly: (2 off) • All components mounted on Galv. Skid c/w Canopy • 150mm TORO Filter • Fully Automatic self flushing • AISI 316 Stainless Steel Screen • Baked epoxy coated carbon steel body • 250mm Turbine Water Meter • Hermitically sealed register (IP68) • Powder Coated • TORO IRRINET Piccolo XR 4/4 – Radio receive Pipe Work: • All Flanges / Bolts to be AISI 316 Stainless Steel • Poly PE100 PN10 MDPE • Electro-fusion Welded Joins
Operating Methodology... Volume: • The System is designed to operate at a nominal 160lps for a nominal 18hrs/day. This will achieve 10.34ML per day flow through. Evaporation: • The Evaporative Cannons are design to achieve maximum evaporation but results will be dictated by climatic conditions. Our Automated Control System is linked to an on-site weather station to ensure the system is operational during peak evaporative times as well as conserving energy costs by allowing system shut-down during rain events or extremely windy conditions or extremely low evaporative rates. Control: • The system is controlled via an automated radio based central control unit. The system can be customised with set parameters to protect components and ensure system efficiency. Critical settings incl.: • Evaporative Cannons started sequentially • Automatic filter flush cycle synchronized i.e. one at a time • The Control System also provides ‘Report’ capabilities which allow for BMA to see pump system status, accumulated system flows and weather data. This information allows BMA to identify any operational concerns immediately.
Operating Methodology... System Performance: The system has Water Meters strategically placed to provide system performance data. Water Meters at each of the submersible pumps provides accumulative volumes pumped from the reservoir while a ‘Sonar’ Water Meter at the point of entry of excess water back into the reservoir provides an “indicative” volume to allow for estimates of system performance. The weather station also provides actual rainfall data to be factored into calculations in the event of heavy rain fall. SUMMARY • This system has been designed to meet the BMA Brief and Site Requirements as well as providing for an efficient and value for money product. • System design objectives incl: • System efficiency • Product quality and longevity • Minimum maintenance requirements • Value for money • Operational simplicity • System mobility – entire system able to be transported • Fully Automated • Reporting functionality • Ease of installation
