Example • Roger: (looking around) Do you see Valerie anywhere? • Emily: No. I thought you said we were meeting her near the fruit seller. • Roger: I did. But maybe there’s another fruit seller. This market is pretty big. • Emily: Relax. (Put a hand on Roger’s shoulder and smiles reassuringly) Maybe we should split up. You stay here, in case she shows up, and I’ll go look through the market in case she’s waiting near another fruit seller. • Roger: (Uncertainly) Okay , but you don’t get lost. We have to be at the airport in a hour! • Emily: hurries away and quickly disappears from sight in the bustling market. • Why does Emily smile at Roger before she goes to look for Valerie?
Answer She wants to make roger feel better.
Question 2 • Which best explains why the stage directions indicate that roger is anxious when he say, “ Do you see Valerie anywhere?”
