Memo to Reading Teachers Date: November 5, 2003 To: Reading Teachers From: E. Garza, Librarian RE: RIF Survey SBCISD has received a grant (RIF Reading Program) in which funds will be utilized to purchase books for students in a book giveaway. We will have three book giveaways throughout the school year. The first book giveaway is the week of December 15-19, 2003. The second book giveaway is the week of March 8-12, 2004, and the third is the week of May 3-7, 2004. In order for students to receive books pertaining to their special interests, I need to find out what their interests are, thus the purpose of the survey. Please have your students fill out the survey so that I may start working on some titles. I would like to have all surveys back by Monday, November 10. Your help in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Letter to Parents (English Version) December 9, 2003 Dear Parents: SBCISD has received a grant from the RIF (Reading is Fundamental) Organization in which funds have been utilized to purchase books for students in three book giveaways throughout the school year. The first book giveaway is the week of December 15-19, 2003. The second is the week of March 8-12, 2004, and the third is the week of May 3-7, 2004. The RIF Organization encourages and endorses that students read for fun and pleasure, thus the book giveaways. To promote the importance of pleasure reading, the RIF committee has scheduled the following activities: Tuesday, December 16th – “Hats Off to Reading” (Students may wear their favorite hat or cap). Wednesday, December 17th – “Be Cool, Read a Book in School” (Students may wear sunglasses/shades). Thursday, December 18th – “Lasso a Book for Pleasure Reading” (Students may wear their favorite Western attire). Please encourage your son/daughter to participate in these activities. Mr. Snavely and the RIF committee will be distributing books to all students during their reading classes on Tuesday, December 16th. Any student who is absent on this day, may come by the library to pick up his/her book when he/she returns to school. Your help with these activities will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, E. Letter to Parents (Spanish Version) Diciembre 9, 2003 Apreciables Padres: SBCISD ha recibido una subvencion de la Organizacion RIF (La Lectura es Fundamental) en la cual los fondos han sido utilzados en la compra de tres obsequios de libros para los estudiantes durante todo al ano escolar. El primer obsequio es en la semana del 15 al 19 de diciembre del 2003. El Segundo es en la semana del 8 al 12 de marzo del 2004, y el tercer es en la semana del 3 al 17 de mayo del 2004. La Organizacion RIF fomenta y endosa que los estudiantes lean por diversion y placer, por eso son los obsequios de libros. Para promover la importancia de la lectura por placer, el Comite RIF ha programado las siguientes actividades: Martes 16, de diciembre – “Descubrete ante la Lectura” (Los estudiantes pueden usar su sombrero o cachucha favorita). Miercoles 17, de diciembre – Se Tranquilo, Lee un Libro en La Escuela” (Los estudiantes pueden usar anteojos o gafas de sol). Jueves 18, de diciembre – “Laza un Libro Para Disfrutar la Lectura” (Los estudiantes pueden usar su ropa vaquera favorita). Por favor anime a su hijo/a a participar en estas actividades. El Sr. Snavely y el Comite RIF estaran distribuyendo libros a todos los estudiantes durante sus classes de lectura el martes 16, de diciembre. Cualquier estudiante que este ausente ese dia, puede venir a la biblioteca a recoger su libro cuando regrese a la escuela. Su ayuda con estas actividades sera grandemente apreciada. Gracias, E.
