Policy Enforcement Scope of the issue: • Issue concern how policy rules from the network are enforced within the IEEE 802.11 access point • Specific requirements placed on IEEE 802.11 by external network operators, where traffic enforcement policies are applied to user traffic. • This particularly applies to the scenario where multiple operators share the IEEE 802.11 hotspot infrastructure. Enforcement example • Example Requirements :- • Provisioning at the AP • Integration/Distribution Service shall be able to identify PDU according to user identity • Integration Service shall be able to bind data traffic to VLAN or tunnel according to user identity/subscription • AP shall be able to obtain/interpret policy information from external network, e.g. convert the subscription info to VLAN ID • Enforcement of the traffic • Enforcement of the policy over the traffic should support per-user granulites • No interworking services shall be supported/no affected Cheng Hong, Tan Pek-Yew, Panasonic
External QoS Mapping Scope of the issue: • Issues concerning specific external network requirements mapping to IEEE 802.11 • Issues concerning the co-ordination of admission control between the air interface and external networks Impact to the 802.11 : • Affect the Association/re-association service • May affect the Integration • Method for convey user’s QoS profile to WLAN • MLME/ SME implementation • Integration of the end-to-end QoS and 11 QoS (was beyond 11e scope) Cheng Hong, Tan Pek-Yew, Panasonic
External QoS Mapping example • Example Requirements :- • Terminal side • MLME/SME shall be able to map end-to-end QoS requirements to 11e QoS parameters • MLME/SME shall be able to map 11e QoS status info to upper layer info for end-to-end QoS adjustment • Network side • QoS provisioning shall be per-user based • QoS provisioning shall be based on user subscription (info from the external network) • Admission Control/association service shall make use of the QoS profile delivered from the external network Cheng Hong, Tan Pek-Yew, Panasonic
Charging Scope of the issue: • Specifically charging information, generated within the Access Point, is required to be communicate to the external network • IEEE 802.11u will define a mechanism to collect such information Impact to the 802.11 : • MLME impacts • Distribution/Integration Service • Information gathering (e.g. 11k like mechanism) • Communication with external network controls Cheng Hong, Tan Pek-Yew, Panasonic
Charging examples • WLAN Needs to support both for the interworking • Charging offline charged interworking subscribers • Charging online charged interworking subscribers • Details in TS23.234 sec 7.7 & 7.8 • For online charging • WLAN needs to support realtime monitoring • AP should collect real time usage information and carry out the update • Information has to be updated to the charging entity in WLAN (AAA entities) • Needs to be able to revoke user connection based on credit/quota updates • Shall be able to support non-interworking users • Shall support co-existence of multiple interworking relationships • Charging should support dynamic provisioning (instead of static configuation) Cheng Hong, Tan Pek-Yew, Panasonic
