Mexico: Beachside Color

2. BEGINNING Waking up to this view every morning could never seem monotonous. In this photo you can see all the different planes. I especially liked this photo because while the island in the background is unfocused, everything else is in focus. The colors also accentuate this photo. While green and blue are analogous, the gray and white of the ocean , island, and clouds highlight the blue sky and the green vegetation .

3. Washed Up Beauty While walking the beach I always notice the debris left behind by the tide. While I usually think that it is ugly and ruins the natural beauty of the beach, I couldn’t help but stop and take a picture. What really got me in this picture was that while on the beach this did not look beautiful at all, the photo captures an essence. The gray washed out color of the buildings and sand help to illuminate the colorful pieces of debris, especially the red, blue and white board and the empty bucket. But the connotation I find from this picture is that like Mexico, the debris is being overlooked and dismissed, but the beauty is still there, one just has to find it.

4. A Ray of Light This photo was taken in a beach front house destroyed by El Nino fifteen years ago. Most of it was completely destroyed by the storm and graffitied by local hooligans. The table had fallen through the kitchen floor but, through out all the destruction and time, the table still stood. It was the only thing not destroyed and the fact that the only light in the house was being cast upon it, seemed like a little ray of hope. It was difficult to find an angle that illuminated it the best, but I found looking up at it from the side accentuated the ‘raised up’ feeling that I wanted to give off.

5. Door I took this photo a couple of times lining it up different ways. This one ended up being my favorite for a couple of different reasons. I really like the gradual brightening of the blue sky. It is brightest by the top of the photo and continues to lighten to a soft gray into the ocean. I also like this picture because it captures the red brick wall on the other side which helps illuminate the door and highlight the sky. It also just offers a different color to work with.

6. End Sunsets are so naturally beautiful, it is easy to just capture the moment. The colors are so vibrant and the way they reflect off the ocean is so beautiful. I really like this photo because the island is almost shown through negative space. Since everything else is so vibrant, the island is only shown because of the sun light coming from behind it. It also acts as a divider between the sky and the sun which would normally just eventually meet in the distance.
