6. Credit Cards • All students receive a credit card at the start of each 6 weeks. • They can earn points for following rules, completing tasks, going above and beyond, exhibiting exceptional character traits, etc. • They ‘cash in’ their points at the end of the 6 weeks for a reward, ranging from Auctions to game time to movie time, etc.

7. Planners • Students are required to use a planner to record homework, tests, and project assignments in 5th grade. • Replacement planners can be purchased from the front office for $3.00. • Students are responsible for writing in their planners. We will provide time and instructions on what to write, but we cannot check 75+ planners every day. Parents, please monitor your child’s planners and encourage students for using it as you see fit.

9. Expectation Cards • Signed by a parent by Friday. • Checked by teacher for parent signature by Friday. • #2 Organization mark if not signed by Friday. • #9 Complies with dress code.

10. Expectation Cards • Students are responsible for keeping up with their own Expectation Card. It is their responsibility to have their card with them at school each day. • It is a 5th grade responsibility to ask parents to sign the card each Thursday evening. • Please sign each week (not a month in advance.) • Loss of the Expectation Card will result in three marks for #2 (Organization), and replacement of all previously earned marks on a new card.

11. 5th Grade KISD Grade Weighting System • Major Grades – 45% (Tests, major projects, etc) • Minor Grades – 40% (Quizzes, class work, etc) • **(New from 4th grade) Other – 15% (Homework, Fast Facts, etc)

12. Important Notes: • Transportation changes require a note from a parent! Teachers cannot accept e-mails for transportation changes. • Please replenish school supplies (glue sticks, paper and pencils) as needed throughout year. • Skateboardsand scooters are not allowed on school property. • Cell Phones – Students are not allowed to possess a cell phone during the instructional day (unless specifically requested on a particular by a teacher for instructional purposes)

13. More Notes: • Deliveries: If you need to deliver something to the front office for your student, please do so BEFORE 10AM. Students may not call home for homework left at home—only for eye glasses and medicine. • Lunch deliveries- Parents will Raptor in and take the lunch to the cafeteria and leave on the cart just inside the doors. • Oops! I forgot something at school – What do I do? Your student may come back to collect whatever they forgot as long as a 5th grade teacher is still on campus. • Birthday treats- please send individually wrapped treats to celebrate your child’s birthday. Please be mindful of our classmates with food allergies. Treats are handed out during recess.

14. Honor Posse Criteria • Students must have 3 or fewer marks on their expectation card in categories 5-9(citizenship). • Has not received an “n” in any category (work habits or citizenship). • Has not received a disciplinary referral resulting in a consequence.

News from the Nurse Please adhere to the following: • Students who are ill should stay home. • Students have to be free of fever (and/or vomiting) for at least 24 hours without fever reducing medicine before they return to school. • Remember you can use the JWE-PTA website to report an absence.

18. ID Badges • Students are required to have a JWE ID badge. • They are necessary for use in the lunch line and to check out books from the library. • New Badges may be ordered for $4.

19. Doctor Appointments • If possible, schedule dentist and doctor appointments early in the morning before 10:00 am or after 2:50 pm. • Our core classes start at 10:00 am and finish at 2:50 pm, and your child will miss important instructional time no matter which classes they miss.

20. Parent/Teacher Conferences • Will be held as needed. • Teachers will conference with parents of their homeroom students, but provide written input for all switch students’ conferences. • Please feel free to contact subject-area teachers directly for questions/concerns any time during the year.

24. Reading Reminders • Students must come to reading class each day with a chapter book to read. • Homework: Every day the students are required to read for a minimum of 30 minutes. This will be noted and assessed in weekly rubrics.

The are NOT, however, allowed to bring the device into another class unless directly requested by a teacher for a specific lesson.
