  1. Breakfast • According to WebMD, “While adults need to eat breakfast each day to perform their best, kids need it even more. Their growing bodies and developing brains rely heavily on the regular intake of food. When kids skip breakfast, they can end up going for long periods of time without food and this period of semi-starvation can create a lot of physical, intellectual, and behavioral problems for them.”

  2. Food Science Magazine • "We've all heard the old saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but do you know why? We're here to share all the facts and science behind this theory which proves that your parents and grandparents were right after all! Now obviously, food is fuel and energy for our bodies and without it we spend the day stumbling around in a fog and fighting off a headache and a bad attitude. Breakfast is literally just that, breaking the fast that your body is in from the night before. “

  3. Food Science Magazine • “The consumption of an early morning snack increases the metabolic rate (how fast you burn calories) and kick starts your body into gear, telling it what to expect the rest of the day. If breakfast isn't had, your body doesn't process your next meal as quickly and tries to hold onto those nutrients. Since it didn't get any morning fuel, it tries to hold onto the afternoon meal as long as possible — instead of burning it right away.”

  4. Kids Health Magazine • “It's important for kids to have breakfast every day, but what they eat in the morning is crucial too. Choosing breakfast foods that are rich in whole grains, fiber, and protein while low in added sugar may boost kids' attention span, concentration, and memory — which they need to learn in school.” • “Kids who eat breakfast are more likely to get fiber, calcium, and other important nutrients. They also tend to keep their weight under control, have lower blood cholesterol levels and fewer absences from school, and make fewer trips to the school nurse with stomach complaints related to hunger.”

  8. Business Letters • For your assignment, you will craft a formal persuasive letter to the very famous CEO, Donald Thompson • Business letters should be typed and printed on a standard 8.5 X 11 white paper and should not exceed a page. • Remember to remain professional. Even if you are writing a letter of complaint, remain polite and courteous. Simply state the problem(s) along with any other relevant information and be sure to avoid threats and slander.

  9. Your Objective • Your objective is to persuade Donald Thompson to extend the McDonald breakfast hours from 10:30 to 11:30. If this is not possible as an international undertaking, perhaps suggest a test run at the Chandler Blvd and Dobson McDonalds. • Although this isn’t necessarily a letter of complaint, it is a letter asking a very famous mogul to change a policy that was well-thought out. Please take into consideration your tone, language, and professionalism.

  10. Necessary Sections • Your first section should be devoted to showcasing your familiarity with your audience. What do you know about McDonalds? Be positive, be flattering, and be sincere. • Why is breakfast so important? • What is one extremely positive experience you’ve had when you ate breakfast? If you can incorporate McDonalds that would be lovely.

  11. Necessary Sections 4. What is a negative experience you’ve had from not eating breakfast? If you can incorporate McDonalds, that would be lovely. DO NOT BLAME MCDONALDS. Merely describe your experience and how you yearned for breakfast there. 5. State the purpose of your letter. This is where you need to find a creative way to suggest extending the breakfast hours to 11:30am.
