Jordan Gateway Project - Background • The idea of an Israeli-Jordanian Industrial Park was born in 1994 by Mr. Shimon Peres, following the Israel-Jordan peace treaty. • The industrial park is a result of a triangle agreement, between Israel, Jordan and the U.S, exempting all products entering the U.S Market from customs (QIZ arrangement). • The Jordanian government established infrastructures in 2001, allowing the implementation of the first phase of the project. Jordan Gateway Project - Background • Planning procedures had commenced on the Israeli side in 2002, (following the approval of the development plan) but have been stopped in 2004 due to a change in ownership. • Planning has been renewed on the Israeli side in 2009, for a 245-dunams industrial park and a 3-km access road. • On may 14 2012, the Government of Israel approved a resolution for establishing the Israeli side of the park. Jordan Gateway Project - Location The State of Israel • 8km south of the northern Israel- Jordan international border crossing point. • 67km east of Haifa Port on the Mediterranean coast. • 90km north-west of Amman. • 40km west of Irbid. April 2013
Current Status - Land • Total Project area is 1400 dunams, on the Jordanian side 1200 dunams (700 dunams leveled and developed), and around 200 dunams on the Israeli side (in final planning). • On the Jordanian side – long term lease from the GOJ. • Industrial potential of 314 dunams, out of which 15 dunams are built (fully rented). Current Status – Jordanian Side • Fully operational industrial and trading park. • “Free Zone” status granted by Government of Jordan: Duty-free (customs, vat), 12-year income tax exemption. • Area “C” industrial zone. • QIZ status granted by US Government. The State of Israel April 2013
Current Status – Israeli Side • Statutory planning, detailed planning and design completed. • Land allocated for the project. • May 2012 - GOI resolution declaring support for the project, and appointment of an inter-ministerial committee for all execution aspects. • April 2013 – Expected submission of the committee report. Current Business Activities • Manufacturing of coolant filters for light and heavy machinery (Caterpillar). • Grains and animal feed trading. • Steel trading. • Medical device assembly. • Sewing and Textile Finishing (under establishment). The State of Israel April 2013
Required Steps • GOI resolution approving the proposed plan and allocating the sources for the project. • Informing and coordinating with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and appointing a Point of Contact on each side. • Establishing the bridge that will connect both sides of the Jordan Gateway industrial park. • Approving security, movement and traffic protocols within and outside the industrial park. • Investing in infrastructures on the Israeli side.
