What is MIS ?? • It is defined as a system which provide info. Support for decision-making in the organisatio. • It is defined as a system based on the database of the organisation evolved for thepurpose of providing info. To the people in the organisation.
Role of MIS • The system ensures that an appropriate data is collected from the various sources, processed & sent to further to all the needy destination. • Top level management:-in this the goal can be set,strategic planning & evolvingg the business plan &their implementation.
Contd….. • Middle level management:-it helps in short term planning target setting &controlling the business function. • Low level management:-it helps the junior management staffing personnal by providing the operational data for planning & scheduling.
Characteristics of MIS • It supports structured & semi-structured decision at the operational & mgmnt. • They are generally reported & controlled oriented. • It rely on existing co-operate data&data flow. • It is relatively inflexible. • It requires a lengthy analysis & decision making. • It has a little analytical capability.
Limitations of MIS • Highly sensitive & require cont. monitoring. • The budget of MIS is difficult. • It has lack of flexibility. • MIS is less useful for making non-programmed decision making. • Its quality depends upon the input quality & the no. of processes.
Info. System & the organisation • Org is a stable,formal,social stucture that takes resources from the env. & processes them to produce the output. • An org. is more stable than an informal group in terms of longetivity & routines. • Org. are formal because they are legal entities & must abide by laws. • They have internal role & procedures.
