  6. Funding on the Horizon • Planning grants: $7.5 M this year; another $14 M over next couple of years • 2008/09 TFCA grants: $7 to $12 M • Expanded TLC: $60 M/Yr. proposed for RTP • AB 2744 (Huffman): up to $300 M/Yr.

  7. Performance Criteria • Provide comparative basis for awarding funds • Direct funds to specific expenditure categories • Measure and evaluate progress ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL

  8. Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) • Reducing auto trip frequency • Reducing auto trip length • Decreasing SOV mode split Compact development results in 20-40% fewer vehicle miles traveled and commensurately less CO2

  9. Community Improvement • Inclusive planning • Identification of needed and desired investments and services • Planning for neighborhood, not projects

  10. Housing Choice • Affordability, tenure, form and density • Housing appropriate to jobs • Jobs/housing balance

  11. Transportation Choice • Facilitation of walking, biking and transit • Intensity of use appropriate to the transit infrastructure • Complete community
