Housing choice • 500 people homeless during last 1-night count, illustrating problems in both access to housing and housing affordability. • Growing populations of non-white residents and single-parent families, but they’re more likely to experience poverty and less likely to become homeowners. Location: Housing Chittenden’s workforce • Where do Chittenden workers live? • 68% Chittenden • 8% Franklin • 5% Washington • 5% Addison • Housing costs are a problem for surveyed employers • Turnover costs: $13,700 • Employers lost an average of 2.46 recruits during the past 3 years due to housing.

Growth, 2010-2015 • Modest expected pop. growth and rental demand will likely require stepping up rental housing production. • Will need roughly 200 more rental homes per year to meet demand—about 40-50 more than created in prior years. • Enough owned homes already in planning.
