Home School Testing Expectations Fall 2014
Why test home school students? SDCL13-27-3 requires that home school students are tested in grades 2, 4,8, and 11 for basic competencies in reading and mathematics. SD DOE provides SAT 10 abv at no cost. Parents may elect to administer another norm-referenced test at their expense.
District Roles for Home School Students Maintain students in Infinite Campus Send copies of Public School Exemptions to SD DOE (SDCL 13-27-7) Keep test score records Communicate with parents regarding testing options Loan textbooks without charge, if requested (SDCL 13-34-23)
Testing Procedures and Timelines • Communicate with parents about testing – mid February • Maintain inventory of SAT 10 tests – ongoing • Order needed materials from Pearson – no later than late February • Provide tests to parents including security agreements – suggested test window is March 30- April 17, 2015 • Send tests to Pearson for scoring – May 15, 2015 (HARD DEADLINE)
Rest of the Story • Test score reports – copy for parents, keep copy on file at district level. • SD DOE does not allow for tests to be sent out-of-state or out-of-country.
