SAMHSA-funded Opioid Response Network (ORN) The Opioid Response Network is funded by SAMHSA through the STR-TA grant and is led by the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) with a coalition of 27 national professional organizations. The Opioid Response Network provides FREE training and educational resources to individuals, organizations, healthcare systems, and state agencies for the prevention, treatment and recovery of opioid use disorder using local consultants in every state/territory.
Workshop Objectives • Examine evidence-based practices used to address opioids in criminal justice settings • Describe through case studies how technical assistance has been applied within communities to address opioids • Explore ways that participants can go back to their work setting and utilize evidence-based practices

Levels of TA Requests • Universal: minimal interaction with TA providers; resource-based or brief communication • Targeted: not extensively individualized; typically one time events or episodic (e.g., learning community) • Intensive: requires stable, ongoing relationship; may include on-site visits; mentorship; longer implementation facilitation
TA Requests by the Numbers As of July 30, 2019: • 1,006 TA requests • Over 5,541 unique TA recipients • Impact Survey: • Reports from about 570 respondents to a brief survey suggest that ORN TTA positively impacted about 135,000 patients, clients, consumers, or other community members. • Estimates also suggest that these recipients may have trained, shared the information with, or positively influenced in some other way about 19,000 professional colleagues.

If you had all of the resources in the world, what community projects would you develop to address the opioid crisis?
Instructions If you had all of the resources in the world, what community projects would you develop to address opioids? Part 1 (10 Minutes) • Work as small groups • Answer the question • Pick one or two specific areas you would address and expand on how you would address them. Part 2 (10 Minutes) • Move your group to the right of the room. • What resources would we need to make their vision happen • Expand your thinking beyond funding. Part 3 (10 Minutes) Pick a spokesperson and tell us about your project.
Take Aways… • Lessons learned from prior work are vital. • Local is key to support successful implementation of evidence-based practices. • Systems are essential. • Stigma is everywhere and MUST be addressed at all levels—from the front desk, administration, clinical staff up to CEO in all healthcare settings.
