Salvation • Salvation is a gift of God’s grace through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross (Ephesians 2:8-9). • Christ’s death fully accomplished justification through faith and redemption from sin. • Christ died in our place (Romans 5:8-9) and bore our sins in His own body (1 Peter 2:24). 3
baptism • An outward testimony of what has occurred inwardly in a believer’s life. • Christian baptism illustrates a believer’s identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. • The action of being immersed in the water symbolizes dying and being buried with Christ. The action of coming out of the water pictures Christ’s resurrection. 4
baptism • There are two requirements before a person is baptized: • the person being baptized must have trusted in Jesus Christ as Savior • the person must understand what baptism signifies 5
Communion • The age-old celebration of the Passover on the eve of His death that Jesus instituted a significant new fellowship meal that we observe to this day. • It causes us to remember the Lord’s death and resurrection and take a look at His glorious return. • The story of the Passover is recorded in Exodus 12. 6
Communion • The Last Supper – a Passover Celebration • Jesus took a loaf of bread, broke it, gave thanks to God, gave to His Disciples . . . • The story of the Passover is recorded in Exodus 12. • The bread spoke of His body which would be broken. • The wine spoke of His blood, the death He will experience. 7
discipleship • “And He said to them all, ‘if any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23). • Every Christian is a disciple and discipler. • You are always growing in Christ through your relationships. 8
