  2. What new instructional strategies did I implement in my classroom/practice during the course of the PDU? As a result of this PDU I have now implemented many instructional strategies such as the use of websites, apps that are appropriated for emergent bilinguals in my classroom. I have also really implemented the use of bridging in my classroom. I have supported student’s language by teaching them how to use TPR during those bridging lessons. The apps that I have found are apps that help students read independently in their own language. I have also used this apps and websites as differentiating for my struggling students.

  3. How did I apply the PDU strategies in my classroom? (examples) How did I collaborate with my team about implementing the PDU strategies? I have implemented the use of bridging in my classroom. I have supported student’s language by teaching them how to use TPR during those bridging lessons. The apps that I have found are apps that help students read independently in their own language. I have also used this apps and websites as differentiating for my struggling students. During this PDU my colleagues and I collaborated by sharing resources and organizing this resources so that we can use them for our emergent bilingual students.

  4. What three strategies did I implement from the study section of the PDU? What strategy worked best? Why? Three strategies that I used from the PDU were strategically using both English and Spanish during my instruction. I also used bridging in my instruction of using two languages. I supported my students during these lesson with apps and websites that helped them receive the support to understand vocabulary as well as visual support and audio support. The using of the Spanish websites and apps help my students tremendously with vocabulary and concepts. My students also benefited from the visual, auditory, and language supports from these sites. We used the Scholastic News site that is in Spanish and we combined it with using English Scholastic News as well.

  5. What did I learn to do differently as a result of the PDU and strategy implementation in my classroom? One thing that I will do differently in my classroom is use the resources that my colleagues and I have learned about. Now that we will have a these resources in an organized place at our school I will use them in my classroom. I have also enjoyed the time that we as ELA-S teachers have had to discuss and share these resources. We get to discuss what has worked and what hasn’t worked.

  6. Why is this PDU action research process important to my students learning and to my growth as a professional? This PDU action research process is important to my students learning and to my growth as a professional because I have learned about instructional strategies and resources available to me, in order to help my students. Knowing about these resources and learning how to better serve my students instructional needs will make me grow as a professional. See the progress of my students also makes a huge difference in classroom because I have students that are will to take the risk and be better students themselves.

  7. PDU Data AnalysisReflecting on the data you have collected, how did this experience impact instruction, progress monitoring, student performance, and your own practice? After reflecting on the data I have collected, I have noticed that the use of using two languages, the use of technology has help my instruction of my emergent bilingual students. This experience impact my instruction in a very positive manner. Students were happy to learn through engaging technology as well as through our bridging lessons. My practice has also improved and become effective in using and teaching with technology, bridging, and resources now available to me as an ELA-S teacher.

  8. How will I apply my new learning in the future to further my practice? What are my next steps? I will continue to share and find new resources to help with my instruction. My next steps will be to make sure that we also get new resources for our building for next school year to make our instruction better.

  12. Exit Ticket • Please write • How can we support your professional growth in future PDUs? Since the district is not supporting the pay out to teachers for PDUs, it is kind of discouraging. I love to learn and grow as a professional. So I would like to see the continued support for teachers in getting paid to take PDUs. • 2 things that you took away from the PDU this year • Working with my colleagues is a wonderful thing. • Having the time to share resources with other teachers is very important in the instruction of emergent bilinguals. • 1 piece of constructive criticism
