The Three Houses • The Angels of Contemplation • Watch over entire universe • Not all interact with humankind like Archangels • Includes: • Seraphim • Cherubim • Thrones • The Angels of the Cosmos • Second house of Angels, maintains an orderly unification between the spiritual and corporeal universes. • Includes: • Dominions • Virtues • Powers • The Angels of Earth (The Angels of the World) • Intricately involved with all the affairs of mankind. • Charged with tasks such as revelation, diplomacy, and retribution. • Includes: • Principalities • Archangels • Angels
The Nine Orders • Summa Theologica (St. Thomas Aquinas) states the nine orders numbering is determined by their proximity to God’s grace: • 1. Seraphim • 2. Cherubim • 3. Thrones • 4. Dominions (Dominations) • 5. Virtues • 6. Powers (Potentates) • 7. Principalities • 8. Archangels • 9. Angels “And I looked, and behold, a whirlwind came out of the North, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the color of amber, out of the midst of the fire. Also out of the midst came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.” – Ezekiel 1:4-5
The Seven Heavens • First Heaven – “Shamayim / Shamaim” • Governed by the Archangel Gabriel • Lowest of the Heavens. • Closest Heaven to Eart – thus is the most closely related. • Second Heaven - “Raquia / Raqia” • Governed by the Archangel Raphael • Not all Fallen Angels were sent to hell, some reside here in a prison chamber. • Wrapped in complete darkness, Angels within await Judgment Day to answer for their betrayal. • Eternal resting place for John the Baptist • Third Heaven – “Shehaquim / Sagun” • Governed by the Archangel Azrael • Unique – Northern border touches the realm of Hell. • Home to the Tree of Life • Thought to be divinely connected to the Garden of Eden.
The Seven Heavens (cont) • Fourth Heaven – “Mechanon / Machen” • Governed by the Archangel Michael • Apocalypse of St. Paul tells that the actual Garden of Eden exists here. • “Native seat of the angels” • Fifth Heaven – “Mathey / Machon” • Some religions blieve this is where God resides. • Creator holds court with his ministering angels who sing hosannas and hymns in the southern half of the region. • Samael’s home is in the north where the Watches, a group of Fallen Angels, are kept bound until their final judgment. • Sixth Heaven – “Zebul” • No single Archangel rules. • Seven powerful Cherubim and their seven phoenixes reside here. • As well as other angels who specialize in the study of science and art. • They mark the time and breadth of the universe – considering their home a front of celestial knowledge.
The Seven Heavens (cont) • Seventh Heaven– “Araboth” • Some believe the Archangel Samael (Satan) Governs this Heaven. • Others believe this is where God dwells • Seraphim, Cherubim, and Thrones choose as their place to dwell. • Location of the Guph • Gigantic hall, Holds the souls of those yet to be born.
The Seven Spheres • First Sphere – Angels of Power • Teach to channel and release spiritual energy. • Channel the unfocused, nascent energies to a channeled, accessible step between God and man. • Teach mortals to expand their spiritual selves and refine their relationship with God. • Second Sphere – Angels of Healing • Assist mankind in avoiding illnesses and disease. • Able to easily discern a person’s emotional, mental, and spiritual malaise as well as physical sickness. • Work closely with person’s Guardian Angel. • Third Sphere – Guardian Angels of the Home • Protect the home and hearth against dangers, disasters, and ill fortune. • Fourth Sphere – Building Angels • Inspire and help to perfect feelings and thoughts. • Drive humans to attain the perfect integration of the physical, mental, and the spiritual.
The Seven Spheres (cont) • Fifth Sphere – Angels of Nature • Oversee the elemental processes of earth, air, fire, and water. • Monitor the relation of the elements and mankind. • Educate man about the balance of nature. • Sixth Sphere – Angels of Music • Concerns itself with the infusion of music into human cultures. • Lend inspiration to all musical creations of mankind • Seventh Sphere – Angels of Beauty and Art • Inspirational • These angels (muses) are concerned with mankind’s relationship with the arts • Focus on Art, giving divine inspiration to those few humans able to create such works.
First form: Theban Widely accepted as the an Angelic scripture. Form seen is “informal” where as there is a more “formal” scripture that is much like modern day cursive. Second form: Angelic True Angelic Scripture. No informal or formal ways of writing, just lines and dots! (Simple, eh?) Angelic Scripture (cont)
Cultural Influences • Angels exist everywhere. • Seen by those of varying religions and even those who are atheist, or agnostic. • Depicted as the common – manlike appearance. • Sometimes as mythical creatures (humanoid or monstrous – i.e. Leviathan)
Cultural Influences (cont) • Ancient Egypt • Pharaoh Akhenaton winnowed pantheon of gods under Aten, the sun god – the all powerful. • Declared Aten as the one true god, ruling over the other gods; Set, Isis, Geb and Osiris. • Akhenaton passes away and his successor restored old pantheon of gods but kept the imagery Akhenaton created.
Cultural Influences (cont) • Persia • Zoroaster, a prophet, declared that only one God be the true god worth sending prayers to – Ahura Mazda. • Government protested, Zoro relented and brought back old members of the pantheon at diminished roles. • Assigned old gods diminished roles under Ahura Mazda. • Renamed as “Bounteous immortals” and “Good Spirits” • Alexander the Great decimated most fractal religions and their offshoots. Zoroaster and followers were hurting. • Fled to India, where they began calling themselves the Parsees. • Eventually the religion assimilated into Hindi. • Believed their God, Ahura Mazda, was dead but his assistants and brethren continue on for him.
Cultural Influences (cont) • Native Americans • Angels have bird-like aspects • Often seen as messengers or assassins for the Gods. • Pantheon much resembled those of other religions in ancient time, though more closely tied to nature, rather than celestial.
