  1. The Letter of Jude Alexandra Foglia

  2. Background Information • Indicates Jude, a slave of Jesus Christ and brother of James, to be author • Written between 60 – 80 AD • Written to “those who have been called, who are loved by God the Father and kept by Jesus Christ” (1:1) • Those who believe in the true word of God and in Jesus Christ

  3. Summary • Reason for writing is the upbringing of false teachers • Urges readers to protect their faith in God • Reminds them of how God judged sinners in the past • Referenced to Moses and the sexual promiscuity in Sodom and Gomorrah • False teachers are defiling the body of Christ

  4. Summary cont. • False teachers speak evil of heavenly beings • Refers to the archangel Michael refusing to do so with Satan over Moses’ body • They speak arrogantly and are unspiritual • Reminded that Apostles predicted the emergence of false teachers • Urges them to keep in faith, and to pray to the Holy Spirit • Tells them to help others who are in danger of God’s judgment

  5. Key Verse(s) Jude • Jude (17-19) - But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit.

  6. Key Verse(s) Jude cont. • Jude (24-25) - Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.
