Reread the prompt and your roadmap. 1 Imagine that one day during recess, you and a friend stumble across a wooden box hidden under some leaves. The box has a lock on it and appears to be very old. Write a story that tells what happens next.
2 Fallen leaves crunch under my feet as I run across the playground. “Whoa, do you see that over there?” I yell to my friend Carolyn. We stop and run over to an old, dirty box peeking out of the leaves. Clear? Followed Map? Yes No Yes No
“I think we should check out what’s inside!” Carolyn shouts. We give it several big tugs but can’t get it open. I find a rock that’s heavy in my hand. We smash the lock and open the box. Inside is treasure! It’s glittering and shining in the sun. 2 Clear? Followed Map? Yes No Yes No

Read the prompt below. Using the steps from this lesson, go back and make sure the response you wrote is focused on the topic. Imagine that one day you come home and sitting in front of your front door is a dog. It looks hungry and lost. Write a story that tells what happens next.
With a colored pen or marker, divide your story up between the beginning, middle, and end. • Make a checklist for each section, just like I did. When you’ve gone through the steps in this lesson, switch papers with a friend. See if they agree with your answers. Did they think your writing followed the map & was clear?
Using the draft you have written for this writing prompt, go back and make sure that your response is focused on the topic. Imagine that one day you and a friend are at a slumber party. When you wake up, you both discover you are able to turn invisible while nobody else seems to have this unusual skill. Write a story that tells what happens next.
